dear all:
i finally got a chance to play with this phone and the motorala rizr today, long enough to write up a few pointers to people considering either of these phones. I must admit when i first found out about the rizr i was hyped, i thought it was amazing from all the features i read about. before it came out, i had wanted the nokia 5300. after the rizr however i didnt think it was as good. When i actually compared them though, i realized that in the long run, the nokia 5300 would end up pleasing me A LOT more. heres why:
1) Although the rizr has a beautiful design and firm slide, the nokia is also very nice too, its a little bigger but its different and stands out. A lot of people have been complaining about the cheap material the nokia is made out of, and that the slider isnt firm, but honestly its completely fine. the slider wiggles around very little when closed, but when I tested out the rizr and the t629, they both shook around just as much. The nokia feels good in your hands, and the material is absoultely fine.
2)sound quality: holy crap, the nokia blew me away when i heard the sound quality of ringtones and the quality of the sound when playing recorded videos. The rizr was measly and poor quality compared to the nokia, almost half as loud and clear. I was a little dissapointed with the rizr when i heard this, but oh well.
3) camera, ok i know it says 2 megapixel with the rizr, but on the phone it makes no difference. seriously, the nokia 5300 is 1.3 mp and it was actually way better than the rizr due to its qvga screen. the only thing about camera on the rizr that beat the nokia is the fact that it had a flash, that was really nice, but still with all the advantages the nokia has over the rizr i dont think it matters anyways.
4) UI: the ui on the rizr compared to the nokia is sluggish and slow. the nokia is extremely user friendly and it is more responsive and tactile. i guess i could talk about the text messaging in this category. the rizr's texting uses the traditional motorola system, iTAP, which really sucks. seriously i kno people say that you get used to it, but i had a motorola for 1 year and a half and i never got as good as texting as i did on my previous samsung. the nokia's texting is almost the same as samsung maybe even better, but its definetly better than the rizr or any motorola in general.
yeah so thats basically it, just wanted to tell ya'll about some of the things i noticed. i guess this comment is basically telling you guys that if you're looking for a slider phone and ur with tmobile, get the nokia 5300 over the rizr. i kno at first glance the rizr seems a little more slick, but in realilty the nokia is way more practical and easy to use. oh yeah and its really personalizable so u'll have fun with that. aite people, good luck with ur phones.

The Nokia 5300 is the coolest, best equipped phone I have ever used. I was a little hesitant about purchasing a slider phone, but I love it. The mp3 player is great, the box comes with the USB cable so you can download music right on, and the sound of the speakers on the phone are very good. Plug the headphones in and it sounds great! Since its a music dedicated phone, the speaker phone is the loudest I've ever had and works great. The whole feel of the phone is very good-the keypad is easy to use, the buttons on the side are very functional and the camera is very nice. The 1.3 megapixel has various options you can adjust, a video camera that works very well and much longer than most phones. And the phone uses a miniSD card so you can store everything on your memory card. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this phone. It has everything you'll want in a phone and then some, it feels great, the size is about perfect, I couldn't be happier. I love Nokias and this is the phone I've been waiting for.

I bought this phon on Black Friday, and I haven't ad problems with it. I like everything about it. It slides, it plays music, it let' you use your music as ringtones, microSD expandable, you can change it's color.(I changed mine to pink. lol.) This phone is crazy cool. You could even edit your pictures! This is a really fun phone, that will make ay person go "Oh my Gosh! My friends tell me how cool it is, and how much they envy it. If you're looking for the perfect phone or gift for a loved one, a phone that does everything is the perfect gift. The Nokia 5300 is that Superphone.

I am happy customer of Nokia 5300.
This phone has a good camera but poor video camera. Screen is good and big. This phone is made to be music player and it plays its role very well - music quality is good and loud. If u like to type text messages you should think about buying this phone - it's not the most comfortable phone to use.
Battery unfortunately does not last long - I have to recharge it every 3 days.

I bought this phone a year ago and have had nothing but problems with it. I've had to have it replaced by Tmobile three times (currently waiting on fourth replacement, less than a month after the last replacement).
After a period of use it starts acting up. When the phone turns on the screen remains blank. On previous one it would randomly turn off and on without being touched or anything.
It is by far the worst phone I've ever owned or used.

This phone was my best friend for a little over a year. The camera stopped working near the end, but that may have been because i did drop it quite a bit. It's final downfall was a pool.
This phone is very user friendly, the buttons for music require quite a bit of force, which is good so you dont accidentially push them (unlike the Nokia xpressmusic 5310 that i now own, i press the music buttons on accident all the time, and the result is that i cant store music on it without it playing everytime i put it in my pocket. Never had that problem with this phone). The user interface is customizable, which was one of my favorite features.
I really enjoyed this phone, and i'd give it a 9/10, not a perfect score because you cant see who the messages are from before opening them, but its a minor flaw, easily gotten over.

I bought this phone a little over a month ago and I can't say I have any regrets accept not waiting another month for the slimmer and prettier 5310 model. The sound quality of the 5300 is fantastic and it's spot-on bluetooth abilities allow it to be paired with ease to any stereo bluetooth headset for maximum freedom and enjoyment. The menu system is standard Nokia/T-Mobile and thus is easy to use, even for a novice. The only qualms I have about this phone are it's short battery life and volume not being loud, though that is an issue easily solved by a separate volume controlled headset. I would personally give this phone an 8 out of 10.
