I picked up the 6102 about a week ago, also I ordered the clear faceplate/battery color set and a holster. The face plate really adds to this phone's look.
PROS
-------------
- Audio recorder -. You can record up to 5 mins. of audio. You can even record your current call's audio (you & someone talking). The best part of this is you can use it for a ringtone if you choose.
- Camera - This camera does seem to show you the best live picture, but once you hit the button to snap the picture, it really takes great photos. The camera even has a night-mode, allowing you to have visibility in very dark settings, even pitch back!
- Ringtones - It doesn't come with any valueable ringtones... the one I use came factory install and isn't as loud as I need it to be. But, you have the ability to use .mp3's which is very valueable.
- AIM & Yahoo! Instant Messenger are installed and ready to go.
- VIDEO RECORDER - Yes, that's right, you can also record movie clips.
- SPEAKERPHONE - I like this speakerphone. I've had phones that echo and skreech when the speakerphone was used. This one serves its purpose.
- VOICE ACTIVATED - You can add voice tags to your most used items... I change environments alot so I have my normal, busy, and silent modes available with one button push and 2 spoken words.
- BUILT-IN FM RADIO - I think this is neat and I will be using it when I purchase the headset.
CONS
------------
- Earpiece Volume - Lousy. You must put your ear in the precise place if you plan on hearing anything. If you move your ear abit, it'll sound like you listening to a transister from about 20 feet away (if you hear anything at all).
- DESIGN & LOOK - I love the black parts but the silver/gray looks real cheesy. Its look is very similar to those Motorola LG phones. That faceplate changes the whole look though.
- HEADSET - You've got to buy the headset just to listen to the radio. So I got a phone I cannot fully use until I buy an accessory, not good.

I've had this phone for about two weeks. Here is my opinion!
PROS:
* Very nice looking, with the black, you don't even need to buy a new faceplate (which i have always gotten in the past)
* VERY customizable! You can choose from lots of colors, make your own shortcuts, and such.
* Outside screen is very big, and you can even put a picture of your own(from the camera phone) on the outside screen!
* Inside screen has excellent resolution
* Gets excellent service! A++
* Lightweight
* Has a lot of features including: cameraphone, radio(with special peice), IMing, stopwatch, etc.
* Loud loudspeaker is nice to have!
CONS:
* Keypad buttons are very hard to press, can get very annoying.
* It has a 1-1.5 second delay when you push a button, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it's annoying to have to wait a second every time you push a button.
* I've had it for 2 weeks, and it's froze 2-3 times already. (Must take out battery and put it back in to get it to work again).
* Easiset way to see time when phone isn't being used is to click the volume up/down button, which adjusts volume, and is annoying if you have a favorite setting.
* In order to adjust ringing volume up or down, you must go to different "profiles", instead of simply raising/lowering with a button (can get annoying)
* Ringing quality isn't the best, but not the worst either.
* Small internal memory, doesn't hold too many pictures.
* Vibrating is not very noticable when in a bag or purse.
All in all, i DO like this phone, but it's a matter of personal preference... I'd give it a B personally.

I too had problems with the volume control on this phone until I found the wonderful Automatic Volume Control setting on this phone. Make sure you turn this feature ON. Once turned on it drastically improves the volume on this phone. The feature is under Settings: Call Settings: Automatic volume control.
A couple of other things worth mentioning about this phone is the battery live, I've never had a phone with a battery that lasts like this one does and the signal, I actually get a signal in my office now that makes the phone usuable in the office.
Overall, great phone, I recommend it.

i just got the nokia 6102 a few weeks ago. its a good phone but it has its pros and cons.
pros:
*very nice looking phone. classy.
*outside screen is big
*picture quality is pretty good.
*speakerphone sounds pretty good
*VERY customizable. down to the color the words are on the screen.
*i can email myself pictures, which is great.
*very easy navigation menu. the normal nokia navigation menu always bugged me. this one is a little different, but just as easy (if not easier) than the old one.
*i get great reception EVERYWHERE. i almost never have no service. (i have cingular and i live in the orlando, fl. area)
*it has a radio, but u have to buy special headphones for it.
cons:
*the sound of the downloaded ringtones is TERRIBLE. very hollow and kind of scratchy. it bugs the crap out of me. i have to set the ringtone volume pretty low just to make it sound halfway decent.
*the memory isnt that good.
*while the design of the phone looks very nice, the black parts of the phone get fingerprints and smudges VERY easily. i constantly have to wipe it off which is very annoying.
*ok on this con, i might just be dumb, but the phone has a night mode so u can take pictures in darker environments. well when i put the phone on night mode, i can see clearly on the screen wut im about to take a picture of. but when i take the picture and it saves to the phone, the picture is just as dark as it wouldve been if i wouldve taken it in the normal camera mode...i dont know if im doing something wrong, but its annoying me.
*the phone doesnt feel or look as solid as it does online. when i got the phone in the mail i was surprised at how cheap and plastic it looked and felt. dont get me wrong, the phone looks great. just not as great as i thought.
*at times the phone is very hard to hear on.
*the vibration isnt that strong. sometimes i cant feel it.
anyways, i love the phone, but it does have it drawbacks. im looking at other phones just to see what else is out there. but overall this phone is great. just a few minor things i dont like.

I just bought this phone and I love it... but the one thing that I have a problem with will be what makes me take it back. The ear piece volume doesn't get very loud. At its max you have to mash the phone against your ear so you can hear. I love nokias and how they are set up, that's why I was so excited to get this phone, but just getting rid of my last phone, of which also has a soft volume ear piece, I can't handle not hearing for another year or two. If you don't mind about the volume issue, I recommend this phone. The ringer is definitely loud enough, camera is alright, and sound quality is good.

Most of the reviews are typical of this phone. Except for a few in my opinion. First, I have no problem with the earpiece volume. That is the only good thing that I can say about the bad. Now for the things I don't like, the internal screen is horible. The resolution is that of some of the original color screens. Coming from a LG L1200 and a Motorola V400, both beautiful screens, the 6102 is trash in comparison. The construction of the phone feels and looks second rate. My first response as I removed the phone from the box was that it felt chincy and flimsy. I fear that one slip and the phone will break on impact. Next on to the speaker phone, the volume on this is bearly audible. I have to hold it to my head to hear the other party. They have no trouble hearing me although. everything else about the phone is average. So if your looking for a no frills phone that just works, this is an ok phone.

I have always thought of Nokia phones being good for their battery life, reception, easy to use menu, and just a all around rugged phone. I just got the 6102 from Cingular, and there is the good and the bad. Like with any other phone on the market.
Pros
1. nice looking classy phone
2. big inside color screen with nice bright color
3. speakerphone
4. large outside screen
5. EDGE is very fast
Cons
1. earpiece volume not loud at all!!!!!
2. loud hissing noise from speakerphone
3. no setting for backlight. Only stays on 15 seconds. Light has actually shut off while I was in the middle of doing something with it.
4. very low memory!!!!
5. outside screen is only 4096 colors. No matter what wallpaper you set for the outside screen it looks horrible. Sucks, since the inside screen is so bright and colorful. It makes the phone look kind of crappy.
6. My phone doesn't seem to pick up signal very good
7. buttons on the side of the phone are very had to push

I have this phone and at first I was very happy with it. It was easy to personalize and it is very easy to navigate. I love the big screen, and the little one on the front Very nice. Although if you are rough with your phones this is definitely the wrong phone to get. It is way to delicate. I dropped the thing once and the black thing on the front broke off! i superglued it back on and a couple days later--dropped it again. this time the thing cracked. I was so upset. so i emailed nokia to see if i could get it fixed and they said the minimun in physical repairs was 100 dollars. so that was not worth it. so i went to get it a face plate and it figures that they only make faceplates for the nokia 6101 that fit the 6102, so i got a face plate and it was the ugliest thing ever. so then i got a cover to hide the ugliness and its still like that. so right now i am unhappy with it, but it WAS my fault. but anyway...next time i'm getting one of those construction worker phones from NEXTEL or whatever...

I may be overexaggerating just slightly, but this phone is awful. They hyped it up ridiculously and when I recieved it I was very disappointed.
Cons:
1. This phone's speaker phone is useless. On speaker phone unless you scream as loud as you can or put the speaker phone by your mouth, the caller struggles to hear what you are saying. Whats the point of a "speaker phone" if you can't use it?
2. The camera on the outside display is very annoying. The "self picture" screen on the outside camera has horrible graphics, thus you can barely see yourself or whatever your trying to take on the screen. Once you take the picture and open the phone, however, it does appear normal but it is still very annoying...
3. Next, this phone has no zoom in... What kind of camera has no zoom? Therefore if you want to take a picture from someone or something from a distance you have to walk up to it and take it which basically makes the camera unfunctional unless your taking yourself or feel like getting up close and personal to whatever your filming. This zoomless camera also affects video and makes the video capture pretty meaningless. For me, the zoomless phone is very fustrating and it is the number 1 reason why I can't stand this phone.
4. Speaking of video, the graphics are horrible. Its similar to a bunch of unarranged pixels on a blurry computer screen, so if you want a video you can decifer, get up close to what your filming or it will be blurry.
5. Ringtones sound ugly.
6. It has no memory... It says you can take videos, but the phone has no memory. WTH kinda sense does that make? How are you going to take a video when your phone doesn't have enough memory to take two full length videos (1min30sec). That is awful. This is the second reason why I can not stand this darning phone. It give you the options to delete things so I even had to delete a crummy game to have more memory to function with the phone.
7. Watch your fingers cause if you hit the wrong button its taking you to the internet to charge you...
8. Don't know how to use the infrared port but a button that is not pushable is very annoying as well.
9. The phone is very fragile. It fell and the top part with the antenna came off and the green inside part also came off. Had to fix it manually and now I am worried by the amount of radioactive waves coming thru it everytime I make or recieve a call. It is said that tampering with the antenna causes the phone to use more energy waves for calls... I need a new phone ASAP...
Well, these are the phones many fustrating and aggrivating cons, the pros would be:
It makes calls, it recieves calls, and it has a camera (weak and zoomless) but a camera.
Finally,
If your looking for a phone solely to make and recieve calls and do not mind having a useless speakerphone, this phone is for you. If you want a phone with a speaker phone, a workable camera, bluetooth techonology, not near as fragile, and enough memory to capture a video, buy another phone!

The phone I have to admit was really nice. Though, soon after I got it, the mini display screen broke (I ran into a wall) yes... walking... I've had the trouble with Nokia phones, Except my new nokia from Verizon (maybe its just me and my destructive ways....?) When I first got the phone I LOVED it. I downloaded songs from myspace and set them as my ring tone. (bill wasn't pretty) My phone started falling apart after that. (didn't really care what happened about the phone after that) the antenna part fell off. I had to hot-glue it back together. I give the phone a 7/10
Pros: Lots of cool features, supports MP3, screen was bright, and easy to read, battery lasts a while, phone looks really nice, vibration is almost silent, phone charges pretty fast, phone is very customizable
Cons: Closing the flip doesn't end anything open it back up and every things still there, the phone sounds fragile when texting and dialing

I would have stuck to this phone coz I am a Nokia guy, but I had to return this phone to Cingular for a Sony Ericsson Z520a.
Positives:
-It looks expensive and classy but the black exterior housing is a fingerprint magnet.
-Good bright screen
-Very good Nokia GUI
-Customizeable fonts, themes, wallpapers, ringtones and message alerts
-FM Radio (but you need to use a headset)
-Has a security lock keypad
-Bigger external screen than others in its class
-Easy to open and close flip-phone
Negatives:
-Tiny keypad that is awfully hard to press
-Very small internal memory
-Annoyingly long antenna
-The camera button at the side is too hard to press
-Non-replaceable external housing
If you have to have this Nokia, I'd suggest you get a Nokia 6101. It has all the positives of the WITHOUT THE HORRIBLE KEYPAD of the Nokia 6102.
3 out of 5 stars.

I have been a Nokia client since 1988 and have always been pleased with the quality, battery life and reception of their products
The functionality of the 6101 phone and the reception has been typical Nokia quality, however the construction quality of the 6101 phone is very poor. The case is chintzy has been a problem since I purchased it. The case is slippery to handle. I never found a decent case to purchase for a cover and had to improvise. I opened the case on a cold day and the corner cracked near the hinge, just opening the phone
I took the first one back as the keypad display was weak on the 5-6-2-3 side of the pad. T-mobile has a 14-day return policy so this was no problem; my instinct at the time was to go with another phone however they only had the Nokia 3220.
I think I will give this to my 9-year-old daughter and pick up the HTC, SDA when it comes next month.
T mobile should make this a give away phone.
The pros, good reception, easy to use, good battery life, good software.
The cons, cheap construction, shoddy workmanship, poor memory.
Nokia needs to address these issues if they plan on continuing to be a major player in the market. The business community market will continue to move elsewhere.

Some of the things I say in this review may sound harsh, but note: I've already been through this phone and upgraded. This is a "retro" review for me.
First of all, the good. It's a Nokia, and I have not yet owned a Nokia that didn't get the job done. Here's the list:
1. Once again, it's a Nokia. Nokia's, at least in my book, hold the record for the most durable phones, and I tell ya now, I'm a dropper. I'm like a cell phone terrorist. I'm hoping to clean up my ways since I upgraded to the Motorola RAZR V3xx, which, though more durable than the V3, will still probably break on the first drop.
2. Voice recorder was decent (the only thing I had to compare it to before that was a Sony Ericcson that I didn't even care to remember the model number to) and fun to play with.
3. Camera was not bad. Very easy to get more fuzz than photo, but every camera phone I had used at that point had that problem.
And now for the bad.
1. It's the least durable Nokia I've ever used. The first one broke out of mysterious circumstances involving the charger, so I cashed in the warranity. The second one took a few hits but eventually, the antenna broke off. However, with an internal antenna, this sucker would have survived.
2. External antenna. See #1.
3. MP3 ringtones were hollow and scratchy.
There were more pros and more cons, but this is also and outdated phone that no one's buying anytime soon, though I bet the 6201i has many of the same problems. Good, reliable phone, but there are better.
