Excellent Combination of phone/email/web capabilities
Reviewer: steakchaser on Tue Apr 04, 2006
This is my first BlackBerry, and have to say that this is an extremely well designed device. All of the key functions (phone/email/web browsing) are extremely easy to use.
Pros:
- Awesome screen resolution compared to previous BlackBerry models.
- Web browsing on the Cingular EDGE network is very fast; it's actually something that is worthwile.
- Seemless integration between the address book, the message center, and the phone functionality. Makes communicating with people in a variety of formats very efficient.
- The speakerphone sounds and works great.
- The device actually looks cool; the size is almost ideal.
- Great new integration with GoogleTalk.
- Dedicated mute and speakerphone buttons are very convienent.
- Decent battery life; charges very fast.
- Easy to type on keyboard.
Cons:
- There really are no major flaws with this device...the only thing I would say is that the speaker for the speakerphone appears to be in the back and the microphone is in the front...so sometimes I'm hesistant to put the device down when using the speakerphone.
Overall, awesome device. Would recommend over any of the other PDA/SmartPhones out there. In doing my research the other devices have a lot of functionality, none of which is designed well. This device gives you exactly what you need in a mobile device, and does it well.

Definite improvement: worth getting
Reviewer: realmarshall on Sun Dec 18, 2005
I changed my Nextel BB 7510 for one of these. I manage a mix of Cingular, Nextel and VZ RIM devices for our business.
It's physically smaller than the 7290 it replaces, has a full qwerty keyboard (better than 7710), and the screen is to die for. At last - no more trying to find the button in the dark that turns on the backlight, no more squinting at the screen in sunlight. You can also actually see jpgs as pictures and not a few dots.
For the first time I might consider this as a single device and not carry a separate cell phone. Might. We'll see. Speakerphone is pretty good.
Downsides? The keyboard keys are a bit closer together, but you quickly get used to that. My one concern is that the case *feels* a bit flimsy, I don't know how many drops it will take. The Nextel 75xx was pretty robust in comparison. Oh well. Buy the insurance.
