I purchased a Samsung Epix from Amazon in December. I used it for approximately 3 months and was generally satisfied, slowly getting used to a new operating system. In early March, I noticed that the charging light was not on when the phone was connected to the charging cable. To me, it appeared that the contacts in the charging adapter/USB slot had failed. In addition, consistent with that observation, my computer no longer recognized the device when connected thru the same phone port which doubles for the charger and the USB cable. I returned the phone to Samsung for repair. Samsung returned the phone to me unrepaired with a slip which stated that my "phone is damaged beyond economical repair in the form of a warped board, or missing or damaged components. The factory warrant has been voided." I spoke with Samsung customer service including being routed, at my insistence, to their Executive Customer Relations, all to no avail. I was told that the technical people said the phone was damaged and the warranty was void. I don't recall dropping the phone. I never stuck any objects in the USB port. The phone has no visible marks on the outside indicating any sort of traumatic blow. Since I had no insurance, I am now stuck in a 2 yr ATT contract with an old phone and out the cost of the Epix plus the cost of add-in programs which I had purchased and I cannot purchase another subsidized phone for almost two years without paying a termination fee.

this phone should be pulled off the market and considered defective by design.
when you are talking on the phone, the touch screen remains active so your ear can press on the hangup button and any number of other soft buttons. happens to me all the time, almost every call.
you can manually lock the screen while on a call, except that that also locks all the hard buttons, such as the end-call button and the volume controls, and even the number keypad.
also, the screen wakes up randomly, probably when some internal events are happening, so even if you manually lock the screen it comes unlocked randomly so your ear can press the buttons for you.
the screen also seems to become unlocked in my pocket all the time, such that i pull it out to find that i've randomly deleted emails, started various apps, and wreaked other havoc while the phone was in my pocket.
there are many many other things wrong with this phone:
the function button also changes the behavior of the spacebar key, which is really annoying when entering numbers and addresses.
the function button actually takes processing time, such that if you type really quickly, it cant keep up.
the mouse-touchpad thing is a terrible idea, and if you switch to using as arrow keys, its even worse because you lose precision of how many clicks per finger motion.
i use goodlink email and admittedly it takes over certain duties on the phone well, but doesnt integrate with the contact list features, so that, for example, when you get a text message, it doesnt tell me who it is from even if they are in my goodlink contact list.
this phone and the windows mobile 6 software are complete garbage. i am trying to get my company to replace the epix for me since it is so lousy. i hope someone fires the people in charge of windows mobile over at microsoft because they are incompetent. (i have nothing against microsoft in general.) i look forward to the day when windows mobile is no longer in existence. the old palm os was more useful and stable than wm6.
