A940 is the Best phone I've owned.

Reviewer: ThaArtist on Mon Dec 12, 2005

Before purchasing this phone I read reviews everywhere with mixed feelings. I decided that the only two phones I would consider getting from Sprint was the A900 Blade or the A940. After comparing this phone pretty intensely with the A900, I had to go with the A940. It has all the features I ever could want plus the TransFlash card so I don't have to pay Sprint for the Internet if I don't want and still get music on my phone! The a900 has a bigger screen and it seems more vibrant but for the features the a940 has I couldn't let a little bigger and brighter screen sway me. The a940's picture quality is great and displays the same ammount of colors as the a900 according to specs.

I love using this phone as a mp3 player. It's Fantastic. Plus sprint wants to charge like $2.50 per song download. To me, thats rediculous. I can simply put the transflash card in a card read attached to my pc and put mp3's onto the TransFlash card and then back to the phone. Fabulous! The video functions work great. A little jpeg artifacts here and there but over all great. This phone has so much packed into it, to me its unbelievable. I thought $399.00 was a steep price but considering how much technology is packed into this small device. It's really a deal.

This phone is a little bulky. If you have small hands or don't like bigger phones maybe this phone isn't for you. Although I have to say it's not much bigger then most phones at all. The A900 looks great and its very thin (but wide). It was kind of hard for me to hold with it being so thin. Plus the a900 doesn't have any kind of external memory like the a940.

I've read mixed reviews about the camera with more bad then good. Well for anyone who likes taking pictures and can have a steady hand for a couple seconds I think they'll love the camera on the a940. 2 Megapixel camera and camcorder is fantastic. The downside is in low light areas in doors, yeah you won't get good pictures even with the flash. Well who cares, that's not the right lighting for a decent picture anyway. If you take a picture during the day outside you'll get fabulous pictures. Even if you take a picture in a well lit indoor area. Plus read the manual and learn what the picture settings do and use them. Don't just trust the "auto" stuff, that doesn't always get best results.

Another thing is you need a steady hand. People have been complaining pictures turn out blurry if you don't hold it totally steady. Well thats with any camera. Hold your hand steady for a few seconds while the picture is taken! With that said sometimes its still hit or miss (as any cellphone camera ive used) and sometimes you have to delete the picture and take it again until you get a good result.

I've gotten great results with this camera. Some pretty good printed pictures for a cell phone camera and not to mention a 2 megapixel camera (kinda low pixels for todays digital cameras but high for cell phone digital cameras out in USA right now)...

I wanted a phone with a camcorder, good enough camera to get prints, be able to play mp3's (mp3 player), store a lot of contacts, have sms text messaging, and be pretty customizable. This phone has all that and more. The A940 phone might not be for everyone, it is however definitely a phone for me. icon_smile.gif

Worst Camera Phone ever

Reviewer: gabacho41 on Fri Nov 25, 2005

I loved everything about the Samsung A-940. Bluetooth, speakerphone, mp3 player, expansion card, except for the main reason that I bought it. The 2megapixel camera with optical zoom. The zoom works great, but once you take a picture, you get a blurry shot 9 out of 10 times. The only way to get a picture without it being blurry is to either hold the phone still much like a tripod would accomplish, or take it outside. I would not trust the quality of the pics you see in the store. After all the stores are made as bright as possible, but in the real world your pictures will be disappointing. I've had the Samsung VGA 1000, and the Samsung MM-a700, and both took great pics, just at lower resolutions. With these previous Samsung phones they only took blurry pics in very very low light, and still didn't require you to hold the camera perfectly still. The A940 pixelates pictures so bad that it almost makes those pics that are clear appear cartoonish, or doctored. All the other features on the phone are great, and it works well. This has made me rethink about Samsung as the leader in cellphones. After all what's the point of a $400 -$500 camera phone that can't take clear pics.

Love everything but the camera!

Reviewer: jax80 on Fri Dec 02, 2005

This phone rocks...it is heavy..it is weird to hold...it is also not 100% comfortable...but it really packs a punch....a lot of features..

My only gripe (besides a weak battery) is most pictures indoors come out like total junk....the shutter speed is too slow.....PC mag says Samsung should fix it with a firmware upgrade...which I really hope happens.

2.5 weeks after I bought this phone..the A900 came out...and now im really annoyed because I totally would have chosen that instead...
