Just wanted to add to the "Good Phone" reviews... I recently upgraded to the Samsung a630 from an old Motorola through Verizon. I am really happy with this phone. The phone itself is very simple and easy to use, it doesn't have the bells and whistles of other phones, but for a person who just needs a phone, it's a great choice. The ring tones do leave a little to be desired, but by going through vtext.com you may be able to find something that suits your personality better than the defaults. The reception is great, minimal dropped calls, it's small and handy yet seems to be durable. There is no camera feature to this phone, but who needs that when digital cameras are so easy to come by and affordable.? I highly recommend this GREAT little phone to any and all looking for a simple, user friendly phone, that has GREAT quality to it.

My employer gave me this phone to use for business purposes. I don't like talking on the phone to begin with, so I am totally uninterested in any fancy bells and whistles this phone may or may not have. In fact, that's my point; I have no idea what this phone can or can't do aside from using it to communicate with others.
The only time I've had a problem making or receiving a call was when I had to speak with people who were out camping in the remote backwoods thousands of miles away from me and probably a long distance away from any cell tower. As long as someone speaks clearly I can understand them (unfortunately, there are some employees I supervise who mumble). Nobody has ever asked me to repeat myself.
There are enough customization options to personalize the phone without driving yourself crazy or spending an inordinate amount of time messing with it. It is really easy to mute the ringer by pressing the volume rocker-type switch on the outside of the phone, even when it is in my pocket. One button press (the # key) puts the phone immediately into or out of silent mode, and since you can turn off all keypress noises, I can silence the phone in the middle of a meeting or other situation where I should have turned the phone off before even walking in.
I have three small negatives to report, but they're nothing that would prevent me from getting this phone again if I had to. First, is that I can't always feel the vibration when the phone is in my pocket (right front pants pocket) so I don't notice a call until the ringer kicks in on the fourth ring (from caller's point of view). Also, when I use the T9 text feature, and the phone comes up with some nonsense word or just the wrong word, I can't figure out an easy way of making the correction without getting into ABC mode and doing the multiple-tap thing. There doesn't seem to be a scroll through the choices option. Finally, the speakerphone is really hard to understand when the volume is at full, so you have to knock it down a notch or two.
Other than those negatives, the phone is good.

Do you know how sometimes something bad happens, but it turns out to be a good thing? Well this is what happened exactly with this phone. Me and my daughter recently joined Verizon Wireless and I took advantage of the Samsung SCH-A850 with the free SCH-A630 deal. We were coming from sprint and I decided to get the A850 as it was almost the exact same model as my Sprint A840. With sprint my daughter had a LG-VI125. Both of us were coming from models with external displays and that was a must for me. As much as my daughter wanted a camera phone, I took it because I need the external display. She was very upset about this, she said without the display the phone looked cheap. This week (We signed up last week) she cannot get enough of her phone. She was very dissapointed it had no GET IT NOW because she loves ringtones. This is where things fall right into place, she uses vtext.com to get her ringtones and it saves me a dollar every time. Through vtext it costs her .99. She was amazed as was I. She can get ringtones and I can get a smile when I open the bill. This phone has other great features:
Excellent speakerphone
No verizon user interface
No get it now-cheaper vtext!
Excellent reception unlike most internal antenna handsets
Very sturdy and well built
This phone gets a 10 out of 10 in my book and my duaghters. There, honestly, is nothing bad to say about this phone except that you cannot download wallpapers, but who cares there are some good ones that come with it.
