Samsung A850 User Reviews

1. Posted by Veri_Zen Sun Nov 20, 2005 5:23 pm

This phone is great for anyone who is looking for a camera phone, without the headache of figuring out how to use it. Lets Get to the basics:

Design
icon_smile.gif
The design of the phone is well put together. Numbers and buttons are dilligentely placed, and the device is very sturdy. The antenna gives the phone an elegant look. The faceplate is creative in a sleek sort of way and it is not overly advertising for verizon.

icon_frown.gif
For the most part, there are no relative cons for the design except that fingerprints are easily seen on the black part of the faceplate.

Reception/Call Quality
icon_smile.gif
This phone has excellent reception as most samsung's do. There is no sign of fuzz in the background of calls like others say about this phone. Picking up a signal is not difficult at all. The antenna design is definately helping reception as Sprint's counterpart to this phone, the a840 has no antenna and retrieves somewhat of poor reception.
icon_frown.gif
Reception controls speakerphone (See Speakerphone Section)

User Interface
icon_smile.gif
I've been through the whole verizon user interface several-times and find it very easy and useful. Menus, although not attractive, are simple and make navigating the phone much easier.
icon_frown.gif
The red bars are not changable to blue as they are in the competing phone, LG VX5200.The interface works (by work I mean looks) with some phones and doesn't with others. Let me lay this down on the line, the interface does not work with this phone. Samsung's default font clashes with the verizon user interface and makes it look very small and almost impossible to read.

Camera
icon_smile.gif
This phone has an excellent camera. It is very easy to control and has excellent quality for a cell phone. The camera quality is equivalent to the camera quality of the LG VX5200.
icon_frown.gif
The camera, doesn't include fun frames as far as i'm concerned. The gallery only let's you hold about 35 pictures.

Speakerphone
icon_smile.gif
The speakerphone is excellent as one of the first samsung's i have seen with it. The person on the line is always loud, and the phone is easy to hear, even when driving down the 135 with my chrysler sebring's top down.
icon_frown.gif
The quality of the speakerphone is controlled by your reception. If you have atleast two bars and above you should be good. If you have only one bar the speakerphone will sound choppy and muffeled.

Screens
icon_smile.gif
The internal screen is excellent as far as vibrance, and is not easily scratched or scuffed by the buttons when you flip it closed. The external screen, although black and white (Prefere OLED), is easy to see in sunlight and even let's you take pictures.
icon_frown.gif
Pictures automatically save when you take them when the flip is closed.

Extras
icon_smile.gif
The phone is loaded with included wallpapers.
icon_frown.gif
Good, but limited choice of ringtones.

For the most part this phone is one of the best I have ever owned. This is definately a preferred phone to all.

Design:

PROS:

well the black outline of the samsung is really nice, the screens are pretty nice for the price it costs, the front is basic but works, the inside however is color.

CONS:

The front screen is B&W only. The Verizon Banners are way over used on phones these days. The cover face of the phone has verizon writtin on it lol.

Multimedia:

Camera:
The camera here is alright, defenetly not the best, but its not the worst either. It only zooms in on the low quality sizes so if you want to soom in and have good res then that wont happen. The Camera is easy to contact witch can come in handy, and works after you close the cover. There is no flash on the camera. . . . icon_sad.gif

Ringtones
If there was a reason i truly hate this phone, this is it. Verizon does not want you to have your own ringtones, i uploaded ringtones to the phone but i cant set them, my only option is buying ringtones that i dont even like. The phone does come with a few ringtones, only 1 of witch is good unless you like ringtones that sound like baby cradles. The length of the ringtones is nice however

Wallpapers

this phone comes with a few wallpapers, if your a guy then some of them are a bit girly lol. but you can always upload your own witch is really nice, only thing that annoys the wallpapers is the damn verizon banner :S

Connection

the connection on this phone is quite well, even when i dont have any service bars it still runs great! so thats a great thing about this phone

------------------------

so there it is, if i had to rate this phone id give it a 6/10

I have just recieved this phone recently, and I have to say it is a very nice phone, great signal, I don't understand why others would complain about signal. I am in rural TN and it is great. The feel of the phone is great feels well made. Camara is good, not like a high end digital, but it is good and it's fun. My overall take of this phone is great. The other reviews that have had read on other sites just don't make sense with this phone. I am impressed with this samsung. I would recommend it with out a doubt. icon_wink.gif

Ok I have this phone I think its great! I have crap reception at my house but I can make calls with no bar? I think the tower sign on the phone is considered a bar. I kept this phone in my pocket and I always want to fell the design of this phone its great I got one with a burn out mark on led I saw it when the back ground is black. The auto speak phone number call voice thing works great I hold down the 0 key and it ask what I want to do if I say call it calls the phone number I speak in the phone great in the car! The only thing i cant find on this phone is cal forwarding mode. other than this it feels solid like my old netx tel phone not junk i spent about $99 withe new svs but phone goes for around $150 to $200 im finding with out sign up.
The camera was better than my wife’s new LG so she took it back for one like mine.
You will find this phone so cool I did.
