When I've gotten rid of the samsung a-670 because it was outdated, I purchased the Samsung A-870. One thing I liked about that phone:
1. You can choose the animated Dial Fonts you want, really cool!
2. You can create your own personal video and pictures and set it as a wallpaper on main and front screen on your phone. Now that's alright with me!
3. When you are not answering your phone, a missed called pops up and it makes a missed call sound. Real tight!
The ringtones are okay.
But the sad part is when I JUST purchased the phone 2 years ago in October up until December, it was time for an upgrade because the a-870 stopped working! Dang, I miss that phone!
Rest In Peace Samsung a-870

I've only had it for a few days, but I can say this much:
PROS
*Lightweight
*Responsive keypad
*Pretty good sound quality / reception
*Games / programs run smoothly
*Nice quality screens
CONS
*Camera is acceptable, but a bit grainy
*Short battery life
*Can't record ringtones (as far as I know)
OVERALL: Good, but nothing special. Definitely worth the price, though: You can get it for $30 with a rebate at Verizon stores, and you can get up to three more free, which is perfect for the Family SharePlan.

I got the Samsung a870 recently and I guess I was a little bit too hyped up about it... so of course i didn't really find it as great as I thought it would be.
Not to say that this is a bad phone, but it really could be better.
Some things I noticed: BAD
- The keyboard is kind of hard, which makes fast texting very hard.
- The camera is very average, maybe even a little below average. But hot damn, there's flash.
- Came with very limited ringtones and sounds, which pretty much makes it inevitable for you to buy your own.
- You can't take out the shutter sound when taking pictures (which is kinda important to me because I like to take pictures of people when they're asleep, muahha)
- Recording quality isn't exactly awesome either.
BUT! There is also... GOOD
- Very quick to load and send things (like pix msgs, txts, Get Now screens/programs)
- Pretty stylish and lightweight (which is kinda bad too, considering you might not know if it fell out of your pocket/purse, haha)
- Good quality screens
- Bluetooth
- And oh lord, this thing has awesome sounds. It's so loud. (Sometimes a bad thing.. haha)
- Voicesignal is pretty fun to play with.
- Some pretty cool extra mini-features.
I think I'm a little biased when I'm saying this phone could be better, because of my hobbies and own interests but I think any average person would think this phone was pretty... okay.
Compared to the higher priced phones, I'd say this is a pretty good deal. For it's price, (I was able to get mine for 105 dollars with retail already reduced), it fulfills its duties as a cell phone pretty well. It's just the little extra things that could be better. So it's just up to you whether or not you'd care about fast txting and camera quality and all that.
I'd give it a 75 out of 100.

i bought my samsung 870 back in at the end 2006, I was pretty happy to get the phone being that I had been with centenial, and had the crappiest song-errricson, and a couple of other phones just didnt quite last, So thats when we whent with verizon, well i am always up for a deal breaker, this one was a good. It's basicly anything that you could ever ask for, all the basics and even something that are not. While it's ring tones leave alot to be desired, that was about the same with my brand new w755, i am convinced thats more of a verizon thing Well the 870 is light, stylisjh (thought I had lost her a couple of times) While somewhat basic by todays stardards, The phone was great on power and everything else. I miss my samsung!
