Slim and sleek

Reviewer: Falacer on Mon Dec 03, 2007

Well to start off this is the the slimmest phone I have ever seen and owned. After trying out the a737 and it not being the phone for me. I came here and read up on the a727 and liked what I read.

GOOD:
- slim and very light, won't feel like a weight in your pocket
- large bright screen & is visible in direct sunlight (bonus points from me)
- interface is easy to navigate and no lag
- plenty of options to make the phone suit what you need to access quickly
- miniSD slot is a plus can put plenty of music or store lot of pics from the camera
- 4 hours of talk time and almost 6 days of standy time is incredible for this tiny phone

BAD:
- keys take some getting used to, would like to have seen slightly raised keys
- camera is only 1.3 mega pixel which even in this phone could have been 2.0 very easily, especially with newer phones about to come out with 4.0 and 5.0
- not a phone for people who like play games in their downtime (card games are ok but ones like Pac-Man, Madden 08 and others that require quick movement are not for this phone) & pre-loaded games are all demo's

SO-SO:
- might be too light for some people
- lack of options on pre-loaded images and tones but not a big deal

My review of the Samsung SGH-A727

Reviewer: Costanza on Wed Jun 20, 2007

The Good:

-Super slim form factor
It fits easily into a pocket while still being comfortable enough to hold for extended conversations. While it's certainly not a fashion phone, I find it's minimalist design very attractive.

-Bright, fairly large screen
The screen is 262K colors and has a 220x176 resolution. The extra width is nice for watching videos or viewing pictures. The phone comes with some nice wallpapers, but you can always download your own.

-Loud and clear ear piece and speaker phone.
After my bad experience with the horrible volume on the SGH-D807, I was hesitant to buy another Samsung. Not to worry, the earpiece volume on this phone is very loud and voices come in clear without sounding robotic. I don't use the speaker phone much, but I found the test call I made on it was loud and clear, without any annoying echoes or hissing.

-User Interface
This phone has a quick responding, easy to use interface. One aspect that I liked was the "Application Settings" menu in the main Settings menu. From there, you can control your mp3 Player settings, Browser Settings, Address Book Settings, Camera Settings, etc. all from one menu. I'm all about convenience and feel that a phone should work for me, not the other way around.

I also like the small pop-up windows in the each menu that give you a preview of the next menu. For example, if you go the "Settings" menu and highlight "Phone Settings", a small pop up box will appear next to it and show you that this menu contains "Language, Shortcuts, and Auto Key Lock". No more wasting time trying to figure out where a particular setting is.

-Connectivity
This phone easily paired up with my Plantronics Bluetooth headset and I found the call quality to be very good. I also paired it with my iMac and was able to transfer music and pictures easily. Finally, I connected it to the iMac via the USB Cable (not included with the phone) and I instantly had access to my SanDisk Memory Card (also not included).

-mp3 Player
While it's no iPod, I found the mp3 Player interface easy to use. You can create playlists, repeat and shuffle songs, and find music by artist, genre, album, etc. Using the 3.5mm adapter I purchased on Ebay, I found the music to be loud and clear through my Bose earbuds. You can also use a Bluetooth stereo headset with this phone. On a final note, the phone doesn't have any equalizer settings.

The Not So Good:

-Keypad buttons are a bit too flat and slippery.
This may be an issue for those of you that send numerous text messages. The keys are just a little too flat and sometimes when I'm moving through a menu and I press down, I accidentally hit the "C" key and lose what I was doing. While my fingers aren't enormous, I feel that more space should have been put between them.

-Brief delay when coming back from idle.
When the phone has been sitting for a while, the screen shuts off to conserve battery power. When you press any of the keys, there is about a 1/2 second delay before the screen and backlight come back on. While it's not a major flaw, I feel it's something that I should note.

Conclusion

I'm very happy with my new A727 phone. It's easy to use and offers great call reception and quality. While I don't use the internet on my phone that much, it's nice to know that I can have 3G speed if I do decide to use it. If you're looking for a dependable phone with all of today's hottest features, the A727 is worth checking out. I recommend going to a Cingular store and trying out a working model first.

This is my first phone review and I certainly hope it was helpful.

Samsung A727

Reviewer: poongka on Mon Aug 13, 2007

Phone is very slim, light weight and has a large screen
with large text print. Everything seems to be working fine except that
there is a defect with using 3-way calling.
The phone echoes and you can't hear each other.
Went back to AT&T to exchange it and had them
test it out while I was there. Still same results. They offered
to exchange it for something else but kept the phone still. figured.
could live with that. icon_wink.gif
Gonna try to contact the manufacturer to see if there is a fix.
