Samsung A737 User Reviews

My review on the SGH-a737:

Pros:

Nice layout of buttons and numbers

Easy, large numbers when dialing

It is THE smallest phone I have had

Great reception and earpiece / speaker quality

Loud ringtones

No 'varying volume' like other people say

Good picture quality (1.3 mgpxl)

Camcorder / video calling

3G HSDPA super fast internet (where available, any other places it will get EDGE, which is 1/3 the speed.)

Very snappy OS

Cons:

Numbers are hard to press if you have fingernails

Takes a while to get used to the fact of how snappy the menus and OS are.

Sometimes callers have to ask to repeat what you said

Any other setting than Super Fine and 1.3 mgpxl on the camera will result in a horrible photo, and same goes for the camcorder, Super Fine and 176x144.

well first off, i'm not a hardcore phone-niac and this is probably my 3rd phone. 1st was one of those cheap phone and 2nd was a razor.

everything about this phone is good to me so far. however, if you are used to using both hands to send text messages you might find it rather tight to fit both of your thumbs (or i just have big hands.)

as far as the mp3 music player, it's also working well and i'm liking it. but if you are trying to put a song (in mp3) and set it as your ringtone, it won't give you the option to.

i had first tried to convert it to wav. => mmf. with that free yamaha software and it worked, but the quality of the song just completely got killed. it was the volume that really got me; really low and unclear.

then i read up online and someone recommended this software called Media Audio Cutter. It's a free to download software, but only allows 15 seconds of convertion. you can directly upload a mp3 (haven't tried wav. or wma. yet) and it'll output as mp3 and you WILL be able to set it as your ringtone, and what surprised me the most was the sound quality. it sounded exactly the same before convertionl. I guess it's because it kept it as mp3.

i was so excited that i was just going to pay for it and get it's full functionality. it's like 15 bucks i think from what i know. though i didn't pay for it yet, i might very well do it pretty soon.

can't say much about it. great phone!

I love this phone! I bought the lime one, it was my favorite one i thought the blue and orange were ugly but thats my opinion. The keypad is amazing for texting, its soft and easier to push than my old phone(moto v557).The slider is simply awesome, much cooler that flip phones. I love the camera, its not as good as the SYNC camera but it pretty clear. Battery Life is decent. and the mp3 player is cool. Could be a little louder though but not bad if you buy ear buds. i really like it.all my friends are obsessed with it and buying one of thier own. The screen is really clear and the phone is set up really well.

Internet is fast(3G) havent tried the CV(Cellular Video) but looks alright. You can really customize this phone, it has really awesome dialing fonts and button sounds. Overall i give this phone a 10 out of 10 icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif i really recommend this phone and at&t ROCKS!

Not a review per se, but the phone has made me very happy so far:

Very fast UI
Strong Bluetooth connection
Clear audio
Cool look

Only prob is when I have the volume at max it is still quieter than I would like, personal pref though.

Thanks for you time,

-Josh

I've had this phone for 4.5 months now and the battery is average/below average. It lasts for about 6 hours and it'll die. I put a 2 gb card in and used almost 1 worth of music and it worked well for 4 months. Then I used the alarm clock and that's what I think did it. I've even got a new battery from AT&T and it still dies in 6 hours or less. I got the phone because of the design and the mp3 player, but the battery life makes me want to get another phone. icon_mad.gif

ok, this phone is getting to be a joke. The only reason to own a phone is to make calls and this one is sorely lacking. I have seen this same issue reported in other forums and I know it is not confined to the two A737 phones that I own.

1. Wife used hers to call her sister today. Dropped the call five times in 20 minutes.
2. I tried to call someone. First time, it rang on his end but he got a dead line when he answered, but it showed me on caller ID. On my end it said "No Service Available". Called again and it dropped the call twice in less than two minutes. I gave up and called on a land line.
3. Tired to make a call and it said "No network access, emergency calls only" No bars. Turned phone off and on again, five bars.
4. Twice, someone tired to call me with the phone lying in front of me. No connection, they used the land line. About twenty minutes later, I got a missed call notification. On the other, I finally got a missed call notification about eight hours later.
5. Just got a call. Lasted about 5 seconds before it dropped.

I had two Sony Ericsson phones for two years and never had a problem. Same location. My sim card is the same one I was using before, wife was given a new one. If it obvious to me that the problem is the phone. This phone needs a firmware upgrade. Getting a replacement with the same firmware will not help the issue, not to mention that any items downloaded, like wallpapers, game, etc, can not be transferred to the replacement unit.

So AT&T/Samsung, what are you doing about this?

Couple more things about this phone:

1) no voice dialing - pretty limiting if your state requires hands-free car operation. i was really surprised that a new phone would not have this must-have feature

2) java games would not run when transferred using USB (blocked by software - I could not find any matching code to unlock it yet)
