Samsung E315

Reviewer: Exit24 on Mon May 08, 2006

I currently have the phone and I must say it was money wel spent. The only problem I have with the phone is that I have to turn off and on the phone everyday or else the phone will lose sync with the cell towers. Other then not having a speakerphone this phone was a great deal for only $40 new from tmobile. I have had the phone for 1 year and I i've probably dropped only 10 or so calls, but mainly because of being in a no service area.

On a icon_mad.gif 1 - 10 icon_biggrin.gif scale
I would rate this phone an 8 icon_smile.gif

It's a shame that they don't make this phone anymore. In the year I had it (the year i kicked the crap kicked out of it) its still in good condition.

Samsung e315 Review

Reviewer: w4mk on Thu Nov 11, 2004

icon_biggrin.gif I would rate this phone a 4-star. The size and weight are extremely small and light. The camera takes both still and 15 sec movie clips, and has zoom, adjustable brightness, multimode shot and other great features. Dual color displays are very nice and bright. The movie mode requires the download of a special TMI file viewer which I didn't care for, it has very limited features. The format of the movie can not be changed according the Samsung. The charger opening at the bottom has a removable rubber cover which is not attached and I nearly lost it upon the first charge. Menus are a bit deep and awkward to negociate unless your a pro at high end phones, which I am not. I could not find a way to turn off the shutter sound when taking a photo and it is VERY loud. When I got my first call the person complained about hearing themselves and getting an echo back when they spoke. This happened to several other callers as well. I checked with my Tmobile provider and they said it might be a bad phone and to come back and exchange it. I plan to do that to see if it will fix the problem. I had several dropouts when attempting to record my voicemail message and ended up using a landline to get a clear recording. It has built-in AIM but it takes a long time to connect and send/receive even short messages like HI. I also could not figure out how to change my screen name after I put my first one into memory. I hope I don't have to do a full RESET in order to change it, yikes! The polyphonic ring tones play impressive but the lack of a speakerphone is beginning to annoy me at my 2nd day of usage. Voice quality of the phone call is very good and the large numeric display when entering the called number is helpful. All and all its a decent phone for the money but a few more features would have made it a 5-star.

:-) Samsung e-315. Great phone.

Reviewer: JAMiE x3 on Thu Jul 07, 2005

Basics
The Samsung e-315 is a great phone, simple to use with alot of extra features. Not only is it cute and one of the most fashionable phones T-Mobile offers, but there are alot of added treats that make this phone a must-have.

Some of my favorite things have a icon_heart.gif beside them.

*********************
Messeges

Text Messeges-icon_heart.gif
At 5 cents per messege ( unless you add them onto your plan which I shall get into this later) text messeges are a cheap and simple way to keep in touch with friends and family. You can send messeges quickly with the auto-type feature.

Picture Messeges-
I have never sent a picture messege, but they are sure to be handy. They are 25 cents a messege, unless you get the optional service plan.

Browser Messeges-
Not sure what this is...

Voice Mail-
Like an answer machine...self-explatory...

****************

FunBox-
This is where the games and such are stored.

Games- icon_heart.gif
There are 4 games that come all ready in the phone. But on some of them they are only trials of games and after about say 20 plays (give or take) your free trial is over and you must buy the games if you wish to continue playing. My favorite game is Bubble Smile, which is free. That is all that I play. I don`t bother wasting money on the others. I think it is ABOUT 2.99 to buy a game. Give or take a few.

T-Zones
This is where you can buy your games and wallpaper and megatones (ringtones) and such. It is the t-mobile web...which is like there interent service. Don`t even bother go in there though unless your planning on buying something.

****************************

Organizer

This includes a handy:
Alarm  - Use quite often to wake myself Up
calender- Is pretty, Nice to use.
calculator- Simple and convient
to-do list- Use occasionly. Convient
voice memo- Record your voice
and currency exchange- Don`t know how to use.

****************************
Call Records
Includes your:
Missed Calls icon_heart.gif ( calls you failed to answer )
Incoming calls (people you have called)
Outgoing calls (people who have called you)
And the call times.

Nice to see who has called you and who you have called and for how long.

**************************

Camera icon_heart.gif
Probaly my favorite thing on the phone. Especially since I take SO many pictures. People used to tell me that i take my digital camera EVERYWHERE, which i do. But there is no need for that anymore since I have a CAMERA phone. It also records videos which the aspiring director might find quite convient. But the camera is a FuN and nice way to take pictures.

The ONLY problem I have is that I want to get them to my computer. You can buy the cord to to this at T-Mobile for 60 or so dollars.
With it you can put your pictures on your computer, see your phonebook and such.

OR If you rather T-Mobile offers a feature in which you can send your pictures or videos to any email address for 25 cents. Or you can get one of the add-ons to your service plans.
for ie...20 picture messeges sent for 4.99...

*******************************

Settings icon_heart.gif
Great for customizing your phone. Change your wallpaper, ringtones, volume, security settings...and such. Self-Explanotory

********************************

Network Services

Call Forwarding- Forward your calls to another line...for ie. from your cell phone to your home phone.

Call Waiting- icon_heart.gif If someone calls while you are talking to another party...you can swith to and fro calls.

Network Selection- Not sure what this is.

Caller ID- icon_heart.gif See whos calling..a great feature is EXTERNAL caller ID..also you can have a picture instead of the number so you can VISUALLY see whos calling..for ie. take a picture of BOB. when BOB calls you can SEE BOB as in a picuture of him.

*******************
IM ( INSTANT MESSEGING ) icon_heart.gif icon_heart.gif

MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE FEAUTURE! icon_heart.gif
If you have AOL internet serive( http://aol.com) , ICQ ( http://icq.com ), or AiM ( http://aim.com ) then you can instant messege from your phone. This costs the same price as a text messege and is GREAT to use. I use this probaly the most often of everything...well besides my camera of course! If you love to talk online like me, you`ll love this feature!

***********************

Reception and Battery Life

recpeption
I can`t pick up a signal in my local McRaes and I shop quite often so that`s about the only thing. I can`t pick up in the oddest locations for a few minutes ( my bedroom, McRaes , etc. ) but this usually changes after about 5 minutes of searching for a signal so I guess it`s not all that bad. Just annoying. I have had only ONE call dropped of the 2 months I have had this phone so far, so that is pretty good.

Battery Life- icon_heart.gif
Battery Lasts an outstading total of TWO FULL DAYS after being fully charged.

*******************

PRICING---MUST READ!!! BIG TIP I FOUND HERE.
I got it for 49.99 when I first bought it. about a week later on the T-Mobile website it was FREE. Then another week later it was 99.99 ( to this present date it still is). if you plan on buying a t-mobile (on there website) then wait untill the price drops to a reasonable price. AND ALWAYS check there website ( http://t-mobile.com ) even if you do go in there store because my dealer recently informed me that he is authorized to match there web price, and the web price is cheaper so you are guarteed to save at the least 10 bucks!

********************************

Overall, this is just a great phone.

Wallpaper

Reviewer: xonikki on Tue Jul 04, 2006

I am also not one to complain but i would have to say this is the worst phone i have ever bought. At first when i got it i LOVED it and thought it was the best thing ever... wrong. Everytime i am on the other line with someone, they say they cant hear me or im cutting out. Also, if i sit on my bed, i have to move to the very right of my bed so that i can hear the other person without it cutting out. The phone will just get quiet and then the disconnect noise will go. Another thing about this phone is that i set a picture as my wallpaper and everytime i try to set a new picture as it, it says 'File too large to be saved'. I have taken new pictures set to smaller sizes, and it still continues to say that. I don't know what is up with that but i have had this same wallpaper for about a year. icon_wacko.gif Also with this phone, if you are viewing the pictures in thumbnail mode it goes verrryyy slow and takes a while to move to the picture you want. It also can't store many pictures. Personally, i dislike this phone very much, I am just one opinion but listen to who you want icon_shifty.gif

Worst cell phone I have ever owned....

Reviewer: j_la26 on Sun Aug 14, 2005

I am a fairly new TMobile customer and religious prior owner of Motorolas. I let the sales rep convince me to try this "wonderful camera phone"... he claimed Samsung makes the best camera phones, and the E315 is no exception. I have been regretting it ever since.
The connection is awful, I have my calls dropped continuously, I cannot hear the person on the other end- with or without the earpiece- which doesn't come in handy when the call is dropped and I'm still talking as though someone is actually there.
This Samsung can have three out of five bars of connection and still claims to be searching for a network and will let me place "emergency calls" only. The carrier has verified decent to good coverage in my area, albeit the phone doesn't work anywhere in my office building, and if I want to make a call at home I have to go out on the patio or lie down on my bedroom floor. Ridiculous!!!
icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif icon_mad.gif
On top of bad reception and dropped calls, the menus stick, I get a random white screen that will only go away by removing the battery from the phone to turn it off. The pictures the phone takes are decent, at best. Sending pic and text messages are a pain and can sometimes take a couple days to go through. The phone will randomly not disconnect calls, too. I can close the phone and still see the minutes ticking by on the outer display.
Choice of basic ringtones that come with the phone are poor, so is the selection of front display colors, font styles and colors, and wallpaper. Downloaded additional ringtones are typically too soft to hear, even with ringer volume turned up to max. The only two things I like about this phone are its shape/size and that there is no portruding antenna to worry about snapping off.
I am on my fourth phone of this same model in the past 3 1/2 months since starting my service. Good thing I pay for insurance, although I am very unhappy that the carrier sends refurbished phones as replacements. Every time a "new" phone arrives, all settings are reset, including time and date, and all pictures and text messages are lost. The only thing that is saved are phone numbers stored in the SIM card.
I would highly, HIGHLY recommend that you do not buy this model. Maybe I wouldn't feel so strongly if the phone was decently priced or had a rebate, but alas, I paid way too much for this piece of junk. Back to Motorolas I go.....

E315 = E305 with small improvements

Reviewer: patricknewyork on Fri Sep 02, 2005

As other reviewers noted, the Samsung E315 is a solid performer.

HOWEVER, the built-in camera is only average, with picture quality resembling that of a cheap webcam (colors and lighting are not reproduced well, white balance is often off, resolution is low). In addition, it is not possible to turn off the loud "clicking" (or "shutter") sound when taking a picture. While a picture taking sound is required by law in Korea, Samsung's home country, Samsung's engineers could easily have modified this feature and made it optional.

Other reviewers have noted the E315's long battery life. The phone achieves this by shutting off all displays when not in use for a minute (or another set time). Because the external time display shuts off, too, leaving the display completely black, one has to push a button to view the current time, regardless of whether you are in a dark or well lit environment.

I rate the E315 only as a 3 because the improvements over the prior model (such as the E305), have been moderate at best.

PS. Why do people post complaints about phone reception on this board? If you have problems with reception then that's a service provider issue and NOT a phone equipment problem.

Poor phone quality in every aspect!

Reviewer: BethR1227 on Sun Apr 23, 2006

I am not one to usually complain about products that I have purchased, but I have to say, I think that this is the worst cell phone I have ever had. I bought this phone a little less than a year ago, and was originally excited about its small size and light weight. However, I have had nothing but problems with the phone. It continuously drops calls and has very poor sound quality. During a 20 minute conversation with a friend, I dropped the call 11 times, all while having a full 5 bars. My best girlfriend also has T-Mobile, but a better phone. We can be sitting right next to each other and I will have only 1 bar vs. her 5. I also frequently have problems with the screen suddenly just turning white and the only thing that fixes this is taking out the battery for a moment. There have been several occasions that after I have ended a call, the phone does not disconnect, though I may have already shut the phone. Instead the call timer will just continue to tick. My friends hate talking to me when I am using this phone because they all report that they cannot hear me well at all, hear an echo or I simply sound garbled. I was so displeased with this phone that I considered spending the $200.00 to terminate my contract with T-Mobile, as I originally thought it was their service, not the phone. This phone is no longer in production, but if anyone is reading this review to help compare this model to a new phone they may consider purchasing, I guarantee whatever you go with will be better than this. I personally don't think you could find a worse phone around! I have never had a Samsung phone before, and I can guarantee, I will never have another!
