Samsung T629

Reviewer: noahjw on Sat Dec 02, 2006

I have had this phone for about a month now.
Pros:
Call quality is generally quite good
Gorgeous screen
good basic menu set up
good performance
mp3 player has surprisingly good sound
good speaker phone
camera takes good pictures and decent video
allows a MicroSD card (up to at least 1GB, I don't know if it will allow a 2GB or bigger card)
bluetooth
Cons:
call quality can vary, and the call volume is a little to low
ringtones are "ascending" meaning that they start out very soft and then grow louder, often are not loud enough
vibrate is kind of weak
average battery life
keypad takes some getting used to
screen smudges easily (recommend a screen protector)
camera shutter sounds can not be shut off
camera is a little to slow to take pictures
the sub menus are not always the same (i.e. "4" is not always the delete function when applicable, sometimes "delete" will be 6, sometimes 2, sometimes something else) it varies from menu to menu

overall I am very happy with this phone, there are some things I would like changes, but overall they are extremely minor and do not detract terribly from the overall quality.

Love my slider

Reviewer: cristin343 on Sat Jun 02, 2007

This is a great phone. Lots of memory, unbelievable quality photos and videos. MP3 funtioning allows you to download mp3's from your computer supposedly. (no idea how to use that)
the phone is fun to use, very sleek and fun to slide. A great looking phone in the perfect size with tons of functionality.

Cons:
video does not record for very long
Battery life seems extremely short to me. it usually will last for 2 days without a charge and is always dead within 48 hours no matter how much or little i use it.

I've had this phone for about 6 months now and love it. people stop me all of the time to ask about this phone.

I love my samsung slider

I have had the SGH-629 also for about a month and love the myfaves feature installed for T-MO. The animation features are attractive. The reception quality seems better than that of the sgh-609 I upgraded from. Sound quality is the same as the 609. I concur with the other posts about low speaker volume and find the ascending ringtone to be troublesome.

the 629 as with the 609 have no way to disable the camera shutter sound which I found out in a hurry while taking some risque` shots of a female coworker.

At present I have installed a 512MB memory card with 104 mp3 files, 7 vidoes, and 50 pictures. Everything works flawlessly and the transition from the 609 to the 629 was seamless.

One feature I have not read about but is noteworthy is the Airplane mode setting. This feature kills communication with any cellular towers but allows the phone to be on. This is a handy feature when you want to leave your phone on to have ready access to whatever files you may have but don't want your phone to be ringing.

This phone is a work of beauty and shows samsung's initiative to please the end user. I know that Samsung has won me over as a loyal customer and motorola has become a thing of the past.

my SGH-T629 review

Reviewer: BuffaloBill on Sat Dec 30, 2006

i just recieved my t629 in the mail because my t809's battery kept dying for no reason whatsoever and this is the replacement t-mobile sent me because the phone was still under warranty.

Very first thing i noticed....AMAZING SLIDE. my t809's slide was terrible, this slide is much more like my d415, the color exterior and looks of the phone are okay, prefer the 809's exterior but i gues this will have to do. the front pad buttons are good, better than the 809. the keypad is flat and i dont really like that at all but i'll get used to it.

some buttons are changed ie the underscore key is now with the 0 and not the # key.

okay enough of the exterior. how does the phone work?
makes calls fine, the screen is nice, the ringers are good nice and loud and the ones that come with the phone dont really suck that bad, I love that i can set my mp3 ringtones for individuals and my regular ringtone and i dont have to go through that 3gp BS. the phone itself what? is this??? 20 some odd mb of internal storage???? thats garbage. seriously. the t809 came with 70mb. unnacceptable.

Video capture is not as good as the t809 no option for mp4 recording, instead stuck with 3gp.
also When i take a picture and view it i cant zoom in like i could with my t809, But i do like the ability to turn off the feature that automatically asks you if you want to send to your album.

also another con, Music player I dont like that it doesnt save the playlist of songs i had ready to play after you exit the music player. and it doesnt even hold all of my 120 songs. only about 100 or so. boo. and also no fast forwarding?

what else is there not to dislike about this phone?? oh yea the fact that it doesnt come with a USB data cable. Tmobile....if i dont have bluetooth how the hell am i supposed to put things onto my transflash card? dont have a card reader either? come on t-mobile you dropped the ball on that one.

Pros: no need to convert to 3gp, this phone gladly accepts mp3 ringers, Sliding really really good 1million times better than the t809. camera is pretty good, clear sound, front face buttons are nice. Customization of the front display is a pretty nice feature

Cons: crap video capture, no zooming in on photos taken, miniscule internal memory, no USB data cable, i think the screen isnt as good as the t809, exposed camera lense (t809 when closed the lense was covered), lack of saving music playlists, only supports about 100mp3s or so

i guess other than these things the phone is decent.

in conclusion If i could get the front face buttons and slide of this phone and put it in the packaging of my t809 it'd be a very good phone but this phone just falls short on a lot of things. i'd say 6.5/10

i have had this phone for 4 days now and i love it. it has fast internet , a great speaker, a so-so camera, and a great screen. the bluetooth works great. the only down side is that you can only set ringtones that are 30 sec long or shorter. everything else is perfect.

Pros:
screen
speaker
microSD
camera
bluetooth
EDGE internet
mp3 player
IM- (aim, yahoo, icq, AND msn)
memory

Cons:
ringtone can only be 30 sec or less

This is the best phone i have ever own. i would recommend it to anyone. if you dont mind the ringtone problem then this is the phone for you.

CRAP PHONE!

Reviewer: topnotch05 on Thu Mar 13, 2008

CRAP PHONE! i live in atlanta and there service with tmobile is really good. BUT this crap phone doesn't pick up service at all! i should have 4-5 bars. i have at the MOST TWO! what is that? and when i text (im huge in texting) it feels like its gonna fall to pieces. To plug the charger in it also feels like it's going to break, plus the FIRST time i got the samsung t629 i returned it under warrenty for the service not working and something inside the phone did break where the charger plugs in, then it wouldn't even work. so this is my SECOND time returning it, and im NOT getting the same one. i've upgrader it the moto rizr! the one good thing about this phone is. the warrenty icon_mad.gif
