Samsung V200 review

Reviewer: polohead on Sat Jan 24, 2004

I’ve had this phone for a month now, prior to this I was a faithful to Nokia who always gave intuitive menus in a nice compact design. I gave into the Samsung because I wanted the camera and I liked the look of the flip phone which I’d never had with Nokia. I do like this phone in many respects but I was disappointed by the huge square shape of the phone and the pathetic battery life icon_cry.gif . I have to charge my phone every other day which is ridiculous.

Despite my initial shock I persevered as I still had another 11 months on my contract with T-mobile. I was pleased with the camera – very handy when out with the mates, but very annoying that the phone doesn’t let you download via the cable only through email (which costs). The colour screen is amazing, really vibrant, but the screen savers are rubbish – if they were smooth running they’d be really cool (I guess this is down to battery life). The polyphonic ring tones are also good, but it took me a week to get over the fact you couldn’t have vibrate and melody on at the same time unless you downloaded a specific vibrate-ringtone! icon_surprised.gif Madness!

In general - this is a chunky phone that doesn’t look as ‘cool’ as I had hoped, but that aside it has a wicked screen and funky camera.

I wanted have a colored screen mobile with a camera having a nice resolution... strating with Nokia 3200 to samsung X** (I've forgotton the name).. I finally came up with this one.. and I love it.

Features that I found them wonderful are
-180 degress rotating camera.
-6500 colors (the resolution is just awesome)
-Photos taken in the camera can easily be transferred to PC.. and their resolution is too kool.

In fact, on trips and excursion, there is no need to carry a camera.. simply carry a sleek, trandy, state of the art mobile.. take as many as 100 pictures...

There are features to zoom, increase/decrease brightness and mirrorin...

An an added plus is that you can also take a photo with 10sec delay..

Do you still have to think?

I first bought a T-Mobile V205 on eBay then a V200 because I wanted to up and download pics between my phone and my PC. The V205 can't do that, the V200 can.
Both are basically the same phones, the OS are slightly different: Files transfert capabilities between phone and PCs, more languages, electronic zoom for the built-in camera, different ringtones. As I understand the V205 is for US market (T-Mobile) and V200 Europe and other countries. They both are Tri-band GSM with Sim-cards, meaning they can work worldwide when properly unlocked.
You can flash a V205 into a V200 with the proper cable and software and a PC.
Using the GPRS program transfering pics and tones from or to a PC is quite easy.
Since I couldn't find a simple ring-like ringtone in the phone I just recorded the ring of my old fashion telephone on my PC, converted it into .mmf format and uploaded it into my V200!
I think those phones are great, the screens and the sounds are awesome, I love the big numbers on the screen that you can see even without glasses or in poor light conditions.

Samsung V200

Well, ive got this phone for like half a year, and i can say u, this phone will make u more happy then E700 cause if u want to go to america (im from sweden) u can still use ur V200 but not the E700 (V200=Tri-band E700=Dual-band), And its damn easy to mod too icon_biggrin.gif, so this will be a good one to buy, even if its rather old now. The bad things with it is that it hasnt got Java, but many good moders try to change the games for it,(i suppose they r, cause many says so -.-), so its a newhope for the V200 icon_razz.gif And it hasnt got BT nor no good battery time, but then its no more -'s nor many more +'s, but i suggest. If you want a good phone for not so much anymore, buy this one! C ya in Samsung Forum.

Samsung V200

I have the Samsung V205 so I hope I'm in the right area.
Anyway I've had my phone for almost two years.
Here is what I'm most impressed with.

About two months ago I accidently dropped my V205 in a sink of hot soapy water while I was talking on it. It got completely soaked.

I didn't know what to do but I figured the soap wouldn't be good for it so I gave it a quick rinse in clear water. I took off the battery and took out the SIMS... which was soaked too. I got out the Bounty paper towels and blotted everything... especially around the keypad. I did a little tapping to get out excess water.

Then I put some more dry paper towels around the phone and put it in front of the fan for a couple of days. The screen obviously had water inside... but each day the signs of water diminished a bit.

Probably after about four days I turned the phone on... It came on but I could still see the bottom of the screen was a little darker as if it still had water.

One more day in front of the fan and I started using it again. Just a little sign of darkness near the bottom of the screen at first but now it's totally gone and phone works perfectly and screen is clear as ever... and VERY CLEAN.

If your's gets soiiled I would still recommend a light surface wiping rather than the hot tub method.
