I initially purchased the Motorola T720i, but when I learned it is not a World Phone, I swapped it for the Samsung V205, which has international-use capablities. Although I was weary of spending more money on it, I am now very glad I did!

The phone is sleek and lightweight, and the colors are amazingly vivid. The picture quality on the Samsung V205 is much better than the quality of the Motorola T720i--although with both the image is fairly fuzzy on the phone screen. You can email the picture to yourself to see a better quality image.

In addition to the great 'look' of the phone, it also functions well. The reception has been pretty good, given it IS a mobile phone. I have not had any dropped calls on this phone, whereas with my Sprint service and old Samsung 8500 phone I dropped tons of calls. So far the reception in the Detroit metro area has been good. Additionally, the TMobile CS staff has been friendly and helpful. At one point, due to a network issue, I did not receive a few voice mails until much later, and the CSR offered me a discount off my bill, which I thought was more than fair.

Pros:
1. World Phone-it will function overseas.
2. Good reception/clarity.
3. Large, easy to read vivid color screen.
4. It has an alarm.
5. Ability to enter home, work, and mobile, and email address all within one contact in the phonebook.
6. Nifty spy cam.
7. Can send text and picture messages to other phones/emails.
8. Lots of extras included with the phone: headset, charger, belt clip, wrist strap, 'slim' battery, 'standard' battery, AND a European adapter!
9. Indicator light on outside of phone flashes blue when you have a voicemail.

Cons:
1. No voice-activated dialing feature. This is a much-missed feature that is not only handy, but also ensures safer cell-phone use while driving.
2. Buttons are flush with phone. I have small hands, and I even find it difficult to know if I am hitting the right button (again with the safety feature while driving).
3. Factory installed ringtones are terrible. All the ringtones are cutesy melody rings. I was not able to locate a basic 'ring ring' even on the website to download! The closest thing to a real ringtone is the TMobile melody.

Overall, I have been pleased with this phone, and feel my money was well spent!

I've wanted this phone ever since I laid eyes on it in a T-Mobile store the week before it was supposed to be released. Thanks to Amazon rebates I was able to justify replacing my S105.

The Samsung V205 has many incredible features. Its 65,000 color screen is amazingly clear and beautiful. It's ergonomic design fits nicely in your hand, and the keypad has a nice loft so you know you're actually hitting the buttons.

However, one drawback is that the small rubber charger port cover. Since it's not tethered to the phone, it might be very easy to lose. Another drawback is the number of keys you need to hit before you can dial a number you've stored. I count 5 to 6 unless you've saved the number to one of the 8 speed dial keys. Also, there's no voice dialing either. Lastly, the pictures are pretty good in normal light, but not so good in less optimal conditions.

One thing that surprised me was that the phone came with TWO batteries! A standard and a slim. The belt clip is nice too. I use it with the ear piece to talk hands-free while walking around doing other things.

In terms of reception, I use T-Mobile and never had a problem it. I travel frequently and have always had a signal even in Canada!

Overall it's a great phone and I'd highly recommend.

The Samsung has above average reception where I live. I am getting 5 bars (out of 5) in Detroit and Washington DC. I have had no dropped calls and very good voice sound quality.

On the bad side, this phone has a very weak feature set. You can take OK pictures, but the ONLY way to get them out of the phone is by emailing them to yourself and that uses up your megabytes of Internet access.

In my opinion, the phone doesn't have a real phone book like the Sony Ericsson T68i, it just keeps names and numbers like every other phone. The IrDA link is problematic for me. I tried to use the IrDA to connect my Dell AXIM Pocket-PC and it refuses to connect to the GPRS network. I spend an hour on the phone with T-Mobile Level 3 support and they finally admitted that the Samsung IrDA doesn't work for them either. Since the Samsung has no Bluetooth, you are probably stuck with a cable if you want to use the phone to access the Internet from your laptop or PDA.

The polyphonic ringtones are very nice, almost MP3-like. The screen is bright and colorful. The construction is attractive and rugged. A nice phone if you just want a voice phone with a nice color screen and nice sounds. If you expect to use the Samsung to connect to the Internet from a laptop or PDA then look elsewhere.

I've had my phone for almost two years.
I have some java games on mine but I noticed some people said they don't.
I don't like the ring tones as much as the S105. But there used to be an s105.wap site and I could get anything free. Couldn't find that for the V205.

I really like my T-Mobile service... with the 3000 anytime minutes I've never gone over the limit.

Here is what I'm most impressed with about the V205:

About two months ago I accidently dropped my V205 in a sink of hot soapy water while I was talking on it. It got completely soaked.

I didn't know what to do but I figured the soap wouldn't be good for it so I gave it a quick rinse in clear water. I took off the battery and took out the SIMS... which was soaked too. I got out the Bounty paper towels and blotted everything... especially around the keypad. I did a little tapping to get out excess water.

Then I put some more dry paper towels around the phone and put it in front of the fan for a couple of days. The screen obviously had water inside... but each day the signs of water diminished a bit.

Probably after about four days I turned the phone on... It came on but I could still see the bottom of the screen was a little darker as if it still had water.

One more day in front of the fan and I started using it again. Just a little sign of darkness near the bottom of the screen at first but now it's totally gone and phone works perfectly and screen is clear as ever... and VERY CLEAN.

If your's gets soiiled I would still recommend a light surface wiping rather than the hot tub method.I've had my phone for almost two years.

I like this phone !! I just bought this phone few weeks ago, and I can assure you that it is a phone worth to buy. It is great. I really can't understand why one or two people don't like it. This phone didn't give me any problem so far and it is very clear. The screen is great. The photo taken is great too. Better than Nokia camera phone or Sony. You just have to take the photo in certain positions where you will get very great result. The pictures send to email is great too. Clear. I allready try it. I haven't try the infra-red yet, but I use the data-cable-link to the pc. It was really usefull and it works. I was able to do alot of thing. Who says we can do anything with it?? Personally, if you like this phone, go get it. It is really-really great. Sometimes, you can just read the website and get the pros and cons about the phone. You buy this phone, then you will know what I mean. Enjoy. BYE! icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, ive got this phone for like half a year, and i can say u, this phone will make u more happy then E700 cause if u want to go to america (im from sweden) u can still use ur V200 but not the E700 (V200=Tri-band E700=Dual-band), And its damn easy to mod to icon_biggrin.gif, so this will be a good one to buy, even if its rather old now. The bad things with it is that it hasnt got Java, but many good moders try to change the games for it,(i suppose they r, cause many says so -.-), so its a newhope for the V200 icon_razz.gif And it hasnt got BT nor no good battery time, but then its no more -'s nor many more +'s, but i suggest. If you want a good phone for not so much anymore, buy this one! C ya in Samsung Forum.

My review may be tainted by the shoddy service I've recieved from T-Mobile but try to separate the two. I originally joined T-Mobile because (1) they were one of the first services to offer a family plan that allowed free calls to other T-Mobile users and (2) they offered an international calling plan. My job required me to work exclusively overseas and the idea of being able to carry my domestic number with me was very appealing. I originally purchased the Motorolla v60i. The unit was damaged and since T-Mobile offers no insurance on their phones I had to purchase a new Tri-Mode phone. I purchased the Samsung v205. I was impressed by the look of the phone and the fact that it could be used with international networks. What I didn't realize is that T-Mobile's international service is virtually non-existent. At the time, they didn't even offer service in Puerto Rico (a U.S. Territory). Since I did a lot of travel in Africa and the middle east, the phone was virtually worthless. Atleast it looked nice and sounded fantastic. Problem was, T-Mobile provided virtually no downloads for the phone making it impossible to take advantage of the graphic/sound capabilities. All for the low price of around $400.00. The camera phone was a nice addition but lets face it, people don't buy phones because of their great picture taking abilities. To add insult to injury I decided to switch to verizon only to discover the phone is incompatible. Apparently Verizon doesn't use sim cards in their phones. With the repair of the Motorolla I now have $700.00 worth of unuseable crap.
