I have had the X-427m since this past June when I was able to receive an upgrade from Cingular. I am not big into all the new technology these new cell phones come with, so as I looked at the X-427m, it looked like the perfect phone for me(plus I got it for free). There are many things I like about the phone. The ringtones are loud(download some of your own though because the ones that come with it are terrible), its light(fits in your pocket nicely), and it has text messaging. The service as a whole is great with this phone, but there are some dead spots around my area(its a cingular problem not a phone problem). Some cons about this phone that I have heard from other people as well is that the speaker on the phone is not very loud. Many times I find myself having to ask the person I am talking to... to repeat what they just said because I couldnt hear them. At first I thought I was becoming deaf, but after hearing other people complain about this I now know this is a phone problem. Another thing that bugs the heck out of me is when I am on the phone and have another call coming in. The name that shows up on your call waiting is not who is calling, instead it will show a name who is in the beginning of the phone book. For example if I am on the line with someone and my friend Jay is calling on the other line, the name Anthony(or any other name in the beginning of your phonebook) will show up. Many times I have picked up the other line since I didnt know who in fact was calling me, and occasionally it would be someone who I really didnt want to talk to at the time. Overall though, I really like what Samsung has done with this phone. It has been out for quite a while now, and compared to other phones this X-427m doesn't match the other phones in terms of up to date technology. If you are looking for a basic phone that gets the job done however, then I highly suggest this phone.

I give it a 8.5 out of 10. icon_biggrin.gif

I have had the Samsung x427 for quite some time now. I got it for free when I managed to break my previous phone, and it has been a good phone for me ever since. I know that the phone is no longer on the market, but for my sake, let me break down the details:

It is a good sized phone. It is small, so it is easy to shove into a pocket or a purse, yet it is still manageable. When opened, it is easy to hold and is comfortable to use for lengthy periods of time.

It's silver and therefore quite sleek looking. Also, it's nice that it is made of metal and not plastic, which helps prevent it from looking cheap. The antenna isn't so big that it gets in the way, and it even has a good spot to attach cell phone accessories (for us asians and asian wanna-bes).

The keypad is easy to use, and the navigation keys are basically self explanatory. The screen is clear, and the text is easy to read. The menu is also easy to use, and it has just enough features to get by. No frills, however. The phone was not made to be the next best thing. It was designed as a good, useful phone.

And that's basically what it is. It is a good, useful phone that gets the job done and does the job well. The ringer is loud, the reception is generally good, it's easy to hear through the earpiece, and the microphone is fine (no echoing).

The only times I've ever had problems with this phone was trying to download ringtones and graphics. At the beginning, this worked fine, but after a while, it just stopped recieving downloads. I am inclined to think, however, that this is a Cingular problem and not the phone's problem.

To be honest, I have been waiting for something to go wrong with this phone. Part of me wants it to break. You see, there are so many fancier phones out on the market, that this one is nearly obsolete. I mean, its first an foremost a phone. How many cell phones out there now a days are singularly a phone? The majority are instant message devices, e-mail devices, cameras, mini video recorders, radios, mp3 players, pdas, and task books. With so many options, why would anyone just want a good phone?

Well, if a good cell phone is all you want, then the x427 is perfect for you. (And apparently me too, because I can't break it and I can't bear to get rid of it.)

I've had my x427m for about 3 weeks, and no problems so far. The best thing is that the ringer volume is nice and loud, so I can hear it even when the phone is buried at the bottom of my purse. The sound quality for conversations is great and the reception is awesome. I know that's in part the provider but I have had no dropped or missed calls with this phone the way I did with Verizon. The display is GREAT for people who have a hard time seeing small numbers. My parents also got this phone because they're both farsighted icon_razz.gif and when they saw the display model at the Cingular store they immediately put down whatever else they were looking at because they could actually read the screen. The buttons are a little recessed so I think it takes a little getting used to when it comes to finding them, but there are raised nobs by the 5 key so you can find the center of the pad.

Another thing I like about this phone is that there are multiple ways to get through menus. All items are numbered 1-9. You can also use the arrow keys, and you can use the two select keys on either side of the arrow keys, plus the center key in between the arrows to select stuff. It's nice because no matter what position your hand(s) are in it's easy to select what you want. And if you're like me and have no problem memorizing windows key shortcuts, you'll like the fact that you can hit Menu then 4 then 2 to find Bubble Smile, or Menu + 6 + 1 to get to your ringtones.

The ringtones that come with are the lamest bunch you'd ever come across but at least a couple of the games are nice. I bought the serial cable to upload stuff and haven't figured out all of it yet but I hope to soon with a little help from the phone geniuses around here. I uploaded some very cool midis to the phone and the sound quality is great--it has a wide instrument range.

The phone feels sturdy and has a nice big hinge so you know it's not going to wobble. The antenna doesn't retract so that also feels very sturdy. It comes with a little strap which I use so that I don't drop it, but I have a feeling that even if I did it wouldn't be a big deal. It's small, which is great on one hand but on the other hand makes it hard to find in your purse. Oh well, that's how the technology is going I guess. I have a little bag I keep my phone in so I can find it easier.

So far it's been a sweet phone and very good on the budget--free with rebates from Cingular. Well done, Samsung!

icon_biggrin.gif I really like this phone alot, the ring is nice and loud, the games are pretty fun, it's lightweight, cute, small which is nice because you can fit it just about anywhere, and it has really nice things to personalize and make it the way you want it. The only bad thing about this phone is that the ringtones are really really corny, but don't worry you can always download some off the internet! The overall rating of this phone is a 8 1/2 icon_rolleyes.gif icon_smile.gif icon_biggrin.gif

I love my x427m. Its lightweight, has beautifully designed graphics with a wonderful screen (okay I am a graphic designer so I confess, I notice that a lot!) and rings loud enough to hear. Voice quality is excellent. Menus are intuitive and easy to use, but typing using the T9 method is difficult (at least for me!). I agree that the included ringtones are less than cool (who chose these?) but its easy enough to find ones you do like.

All in all, its a great little phone!

I just got my SGH-427 yesterday and ever since yesterday I've been in love. I'm a teen so most people think technology is everything. Even though high tech stuff can be cool, I'm not so big and all those special gadgets. This phone is slim, lightweight and just so nice. (I treat it like my child if I had one). I really like the fact that when you flip it open, it has a lot of nice graphics and tones to see and hear when you first turn the phone on. After I got to exploring, the message is the same as any other phone. You get the nicest tone when you receive a text message. The tones are nice and loud as you want them to be and just as soft if you want it that way.The tones everything is great in the sound department except for most of the ring tones that it comes with. (Yea, they're kinda corny, and some, VERY corny.) Good thing you could download music tones but they're kinda hefty at 2.49 a pop. That could add up along with the 1/2 of a cent for every KB of transfering being done. Phone settings are great, you can set it to your own personal liking. The organizer is terrific because it's what I really need when it comes to the alarm, the to do list, the usual. Network services, once again you can set everything to your likings. With some money, you can further personalize it but it's comfortable for a humble person who doesn't want or need much in a cell phone. Okay, I only like one of the two games that came with the phone and that was because x-flighter is just plain boring. Spacewar happens to be a game that I like so I'm keeping it. You could shop for games obviously as well. Basically that's all. My overall rating for the one phone that's not all that high tech yet comfortable, I give it a 5. icon_biggrin.gif
