Released for Sprint PCS, the Samsung SPH-A580 combines good looks and convenient features in a compact package. Built directly into the SPH-A580, the antenna provides carrying convenience by slipping easily into a pocket or purse while also eliminating the risk of antenna damage that can occur with a typical external antenna. With a vivid 65K-color internal screen (128 x 160 px) and 4-level monochrome external LCD, the SPH-A580 provides easy reading and a rich, conveninet experience. Through built-in voice dialing, users can say the name of the person they want to call and the number is dialed automatically without using the keypad.

Review of Samsung A580 (with Sprint service)

Reviewer: mash on Mon Jan 08, 2007

This is a good simple phone with SMS (TM) capability. The size and the absence of an antenna are both nice features. Battery life is reasonably long, although I would be happier with black and white (B/W) instead of color if it extended battery life.

I don't like the speakerphone button on the side; it sometimes activates in my pocket and there is no apparent way to disable it.

Also, there is a covered socket next to the datalink/recharger port. Is this an alternative recharger port (for a more standard, round recharger)? It's not documented.

Finally, I have a general cell phone suggestion: when one does not connect at the number called (e.g., a friend's mobile), it would be nice to have the other numbers for the party (home, office, etc.) appear on the screen with the option to "chase."

poor quality - terrible cust. service

Reviewer: kenE on Tue May 29, 2007

I bought this phone from Sprint due to its simplicity for my wife. It was simple to use and for about 10 months, it worked fine. About two months ago it started over heating and the battery quickly lost charge after that. After finding out that Sprint would offer no support for it, I had to turn to Samsung since it was still under warranty. After about a week back and forth with Samsung, I finally was issued an RMA number to return the phone. After a month, I got the phone back. It worked great - for one day. Then it overheated again. Now Samsung will repair it again. We just have to be without a phone for another month. All the while we are paying Sprint a monthly fee because of the two year commitment. After speaking with three levels of Customer Service, they refused to offer any help. It is not a big deal to them to be without a phone for two months. It will not be a big deal for us to choose a more dependable company than Samsung in the future.

soild phone

Reviewer: mcstyle101 on Sun Jul 16, 2006

this phone is good, but not great. considering that this is not a camera phone, or an mp3 player it is not worth the $$$$$$$ (unless your not into that kind of features).

the screen savers and ringers are alright, there is one for everyone, unless ur like me who bought a ringtone off of vision.

memos and web browser are also solid. there were a few dropped calls here and there.

Overall, good phone. icon_clover.gif
