After reading several reviews, including the Sanyo vs. Samsung debate, as I've had 2 Sanoy phones over the past 4 years, I finally settled on the Samsung M520.
This is not an overly fancy phone, but it’s not lacking either. I have Sprint, so I checked out the new Sanyo phones and I just didn't like them this time around. So onto the M520 or the Samsung Instinct. It turns out the Instinct might be a great phone for some, but not for my fat thumbs.
I've always had a flip phone so this upwards sliding phone is rather unique and I'm finding it rather cool. I have an unlimited texting plan but don't really text a whole lot, so the lack of a "Qwerty" key pad doesn't bother me. I have a friend who got the LG Rumor for the sliding "Qwerty" key pad and she loves it, but the phone is giving her issues, so another reason for me to like my M520.
I tried the Sprint TV while in the Sprint store and darn if it didn't load up faster than the Instinct that was right beside it. The screen looked great for the TV program too. The Sprint music store works well. The reception on the phone is great. The sound is good. I was having some echo issues tonight while on it, but I think that was the other person's phone I was talking to, not mine. I can get my email fairly easy; I can text pretty decent with T9 when I do text.
I do have some issues:
1. The ear bud jack is missing compared to my Sanyo. Rather the connection is the same as where the charger goes which means you can't be driving using the ear bud and charging at the same time like I do on my commute. Not a deal breaker, but I don't like it And no I chose not to buy a Bluetooth piece to save the $
2. Another review noted the lack of putting personal ringers into the phone. I didn't like that either until I poked around the web long enough to find a site that will convert anything you upload to the right format and then let you send it to your phone as a text message. (A reason to have unlimited text messaging in the plan! ) I can't put it in here since it would be a violation of policy since I'm new to posting. But if you look for myxer you might just find it, its working fine for me so far.
3. The camera doesn't have a "flash" like my Sanyo did, so only outdoor, really well lighted shots will have to do.
Overall, I really like this phone. I spent about a week or more looking and reading and am glad I bought this one. Again, it’s not a "smart phone," it’s not overly fancy, but it’s not a basic either. The design is cool and I do recommend you get the case from the Sprint store for it; it provides a nice plastic cover for the screen and gives the phone a great feel. Otherwise the phone is a bit lighter than I expected. I'm sure it would work well in a loose pocket, but I prefer a belt clip.

With the M520 I am Expecting so much. I am with qwest and they have locked out so many features with this phone. I was spoiled with my Sanyo M1 that disapeared on me. A few problems with this phone are: I can't add personal ringtones. We kept running into the blocked features. What a crock it is for a person to spend .99 on a 10 sec portion of a song. Any how that my beef for now.
