The Katana is a sleek, sexy phone, no doubt about it.
But when I started trying to personalize it, I quickly found out that I could BARELY HEAR the ringtones that I had downloaded from Sprint. After checking my volume (up to its highest), I put back one of the standard ringtones that came with the phone and it sounded fine, easily heard even in a noisy restaurant.
I made three different calls to Tech Support. The first two ladies, though helpful, tried to tell me that I had downloaded ringtones that the Katana didn't support.
It was only when I got to the third tech, at an upper level tech support office that I happened to luck into, that I discovered that the Katana has a KNOWN PROBLEM with downloaded ringtones being barely audible. There is no fix for this problem, nor is there a fix expected, according to the Sprint Technician's information.
So, bottom line, get the Katana if you don't care about personalizing the ringtones. If you want cool music to alert you to a call, go elsewhere.

sure the katana looks like the best phone ever created but it has problems the phone has been recalled because of it's mechanical problems. like for example i had mine for less than two months and suddenly poof! it turned off and it wouldn't turn on at all i don't recomend this phone because there's a whole shipment of these phones that have come heavily corroded from the factory. however the worst thing is sprint won't fix them and neither will sanyo.

The Sanyo Katana is a phone, with appearance and styles based on the RAZR. Trust me, you cannot compare this phone to the RAZR because it is not near the popularity than the RAZR and plus the RAZR seems to be more Complex. BUT this does not make it a bad phone.
The phone is stylish, yet the keys are slippery and are hard to navigate around the keys at times. One thing that's good is that, unlike some phones, it has a camera. Since it is a VGA camera, you wouldn't expect it having better quality or equal quality than that of phones with megapixel cameras, yet it is quite good, and it is extremley customizeable because of the frames and color tones the phone provides! YAY FUN!
PLUS the phone's external screen can act as a mirror for self portrait photos. Sadly NO video recording and no video playback.
Phone features notepad, alarm, calendar and more. It has a pretty good Bluetooth too.
I'd give this PCS phone a 4/5, pretty good, but a little lacking in some areas!
If you are a person that just wants a phone for taking decent pics, texting, good reception and bluetooth, this is the phone for you!

I also have the Katana and I downloaded my ringers fine I have only one ringer that is low but not that low. I guess i didn't get one of the defected phones because even though my ringer is low i still know that my phone is ringing if i am in the next room. Also It is a game clled name that tune and you have to guess songs and when u get them all right i think seven in a row you get to pick a ringer i think these ringers are polyphonic ringers like no words just the beat but they are very loud and u can tell what song it is.

got the phone 7-10-06. currently using both the katana and the blade.
size and weight are equal.
features a little lacking on the katana compared to the blade.
speaker phone function is good. good volume and clarity.
the phone vibrates very light, similar to the blade.
battery light is TBA at this point.
over all i'm happy with the phone thus far.
