Sanyo SCP-4900 User Reviews

1. Posted by k1lroy Sun Jan 11, 2004 11:16 am

i have owned all types of cell phones since the late 80s
signal wise the only phone that compare to this sanyo 4900
are my old analog bag phones.
i recently found out the the 4900 is just over 1/2 watt of peak output
which is the highest of the handhelds on the market
i consistently pull 5 bars in my basement and 3 bars at my desk
at work and have not had a dropped call since purchasing

my former sprint phones
samsung a-500, touchpoint tp1100, samsung scp8500 and
qualcom qcp2700 can not hold a candle to this model

without a doubt this is the best hand held phone i have ever owned

The Sanyo 4900 is a nice basic Sprint dual band phone that supports Sprint's new Vision network. It has all the basic features that you come to expect in a basic phone: Voice dial, Speed dial, address book, to do list, date book, all the basic organizer stuff. The phone's event list will even remind you with a audible alarm. You have the standard caller ID that lets you assign an image to numbers so callers are identified by a pop up image or picture. The speaker phone's quality is ok if you don't turn it up too loud. It sounded a little distorted at high volume. The speaker phone's button is right on the front of the phone. Data capabilities are 3g ready (Vision) to allow the user access to their account as well as email and text messages. You also gain access to all the games, ringers and screen savers from Sprint. With the optional data cable and software from susteen, on a PC, you can manage and create images, address/numbers and ringers. You can even use this phone as a wireless modem for your PC. The problem with this phone is that it is no longer offered by some Sprint stores. I've personally have been to a few Sprint stores that still have some in stock but you can also buy them on Ebay. I still use mine from time to time because I don't particularly like flip type phones and the reception is excellent in some buildings where signal strength tends to weaken. I think I paid $53 for mine at Sprint because I activated it in the same Sprint store. I was a existing Sprint customer who added unlimited Vision to my existing plan for $10/month so I got a discount on the phone.
The Sanyo 4900 is a good basic phone that does enough for a small price.
