Sanyo VI-2300 User Reviews

I just recently got the Sanyo VI-2300, and I have to say I'm rather pleased with it. Now I just use this for everyday talk and whatnot, also for checking the weather and news. The battery life seems quite good, but my only problem with the phone is that it doesn't have a camera or games or anything of that sort. A lot of other phones in the same category/price range have at least some of these features. The big plus is the big speaker for the speakerphone, and the multiple volume settings. You can really mess around with this phone - I like that. A great phone, I recommend it.

Just an update on my review earlier, I've had this phone for about a month and have now understood the full intricacies of it. I've made the phone forward IM's to me whenever I get a Hotmail email - very handy. I've downloaded some .midi ringtones off of mobile17 (a free service that sends pretty much whatever content you want to you phone), and they're playing wonderfully. I'm with Bell Mobility and I have yet to experience a decrease in the clarity of a call, even at one bar of service. The design of the phone is awesome, and I really like the plasticy-backlight keys the phone has. The speakerphone never gives out - even at full volume. There may be some flashier phones out there, such as the RAZR or that crazy new Nokia one with a 4GB drive, but heck, I can listen to MP3s on my iPod and take pictures with my Cybershot. Highly recommended if all you want is an excellent, reliable phone.

I purchased the VI-2300 over two years ago and never had a problem. When my contract came up for renewal, I was desperate to get a new slim & sleek phone.

The first one I got was a KATANA. That phone sucked. icon_mad.gif You could barely see the screen in sunlight and the speaker phone was a joke. I took that phone back after 2 days and got a Samsung M610. That phone was much better. The screen displayed perfectly, even in sunlight, has a camera that takes really good pictures and an MP3 player. icon_smile.gif

What I didn't like was the low speaker phone and the phone was a little too thin for my taste not to mention, all those cool features are items that I will never use. icon_confused.gif

After a month, I sold the Samsung on Ebay and had my old VI-2300 turned back on. It's durable, the keypad is nice, the screen is easy to read and the phone is pretty simple to navigate through. Once, I even dropped the phone in the toilet. I let it dry out overnight and the next morning, it came right on. And best of all, The speaker phone is nice and LOUD! icon_biggrin.gif

I recently purchased this phone. I was looking for a basic phone that allowed my to make and recieve calls. I didn't really need any special features, such as Internet, voice recording, streaming video, text messaging, MP3 player, or any other non-phone things. The only phone that was available the minimum feature, was this phone. It still had alot of baggage.

The phone is very badly designed. It has alot of thing that just get in the way.

Navigation

Navigation is cumbersome. Default options are sometimes odd. You sometimes need use other keys beside the Ok button, to execute things that should be default. For example, when selecting the a previous call in the outgoing calls, when you select the entry, it give you stats instead of dialing the number. You need to select Option and get a menu to select Call to make the call. When you select the entry in the phone book, you need to press a different button to call, instead of just pressing Ok. The way that things are selected, changes depending on what option you select, as well. Some options are selected with the buttons at the top of the dial pad, others, you need to select from a menu, that seems to be an after thought. I have been using the phone for a while, and still haven't gotten use to the navigation.

The side button key guard is useless.

You can accidently dial a number, even with the key guard on. I have had numerous times, when the phone started dialing the last number that I dialed, when the buttons where pressed, while it was in my pocket. If the up button is held for a long period of time, "No Registration" is displayed and it proceeds to dial the last number that was dialed on the phone. Sprint says that there is now way to turn it off. If you have the sounds turned on for the phone, it makes an annoying error sound.
Not enough control over the options on the phone.

There is not enough control over turning off options that you don't use, and turning off features sometimes does not really disable the feature. Examples are the key guard and Internet access. If you disable the Internet access, when you hit the web access button, it will prompt you to connect, and then enable the feature. To disconnect for the Internet, you need to disable the feature, or power cycle the phone. Every time you change an option, you get this annoying tone, that can not be turned off, unless you turn off all the sounds. That is another problem. You have all the sounds, or none.

Why can't these phone manufactures or cell phone providers make phones available, that just allow you to use the phone as a phone. If I would have known how annoying this phone was, I would have just kept my old one, which was very well designed, and gave me everything I needed.
