Siemens CF62 User Reviews

1. I cannot change the left soft key. According to the manual, I should be able to change it by briefly pressing the key, but even the most briefest press activates the default function (which is Internet on my device) and I never get to change it.

2. It seems that you have only ONE chance to assign a function (or a phone number) to your speed dial keys. I cannot change the function assigned to a speed-dial key. Regarding this issue, the manual simply (ridiculously!) says: "Press an unassigned number key...", OK! But how about the already assigned keys? I even went with the Master Reset which is supposed to reset everything to its factory default, but still the speed dial keys are assigned to their previously set functions and still I cannot change them.

3. I sent a request to the Siemens customer care (through their web site) addressing these two problems and all I got is an autoreply pointing me to their online FAQ service! The email says:

"For a fast solution to your problem we can offer you to use our Self Service in the internet. If the offered solution helped you, please confirm this at the end of the FAQ by clicking on 'Yes'. You will not get any additional answering mail to your inquiry. If the offered solution did not help you, please confirm this at the end of the FAQ by licking on 'No'. In this case, a new contact form will be opened. Within this form, you have the possibility to describe your problem in detail."

OK, I tried their Self Service but with simplest keyword combinations it doesn't list any close subject.

There is also a very strange problem with the device:

If go to ringtone menue, uncheck the currently selected ringtone, then choose select to go to the list of ringtones, play a ringtone, go back, select another one, play, and go back...(just two times!) THE DEVICE SUDDENLY SHUTS OFF!! I tried the same pattern with another device and the same thing happened. I thought there is a problem with their firm-ware, but they don't provide any firmware update on the net. I have to check back with Fido (where I got this).

So, in summary, if can get this device free, and all you really want is a cheap cellphone no matter what... then it may be ok. If you care about what you get... then don't even think about Siemens.

i recently bought this phone about 4 days ago with the t mobile to go prepaid thing and i love it! i did the research before buying it and saw that it had sooo many bad reviews with a few good ones. my phone is nothing like the ones in the reviews...it works perfectly..its not slow..it doesnt shut down on me or anything of that sort. i read somewhere that if you press *#06# on the phone then press 'info' and it reads that you have sw version 95.. then you have the phone that has been updated and will not shut down on you. the 85 or 86 sw is the bad version. i happen to have version 95 icon_biggrin.gif ! i think that most of the people that have a problem with the phone may have gotten it for free with the whole contract thing and of course if it is free..you most likely got the bad version. as for the phone itself...my speakerphone is clear..i have service everything works as it should. browsing through the phonebook isnt slow for me, as some said is was for them. everything goes as it should. i was kind of worried about getting it since the reviews werent too great but you will never know unless you try it out for yourself. if it isnt a free phone, you can always return it depending on where you purchased it. i got mine at target for $80. i think it was worth it but it really depends on what you want in a phone. some may have felt it was a downgrade from their previous phone. it really depends on what you had before or are looking for. i previously had a motorola 120t which was great..always had service and everything but as you can see getting the siemens was kind of an upgrade to me (going to a color display flip phone) anyway the phone has nice features. i like the dynamic lights which you can set for pretty much anything on the phone and also being able to record songs as ringtones which will save you tons if you like to download ringtones. also i see why some may think the phone shuts down. if you havent pressed a key for a while, the screens brightness will fade slightly (to save power) and if you still havent pressed a key for a while the screen will darken to almost black (to save power) but as soon as you press a key, it will brighten up back to normal. as for battery power, the first few days battery power isnt great but the manual says after about 2-3 charge/discharge cycles, the battery power will be as stated stand by time. this is true. the 1st couple of times the battery discharged fast but after about 3 discharge/charge cycles..i have great battery power. things that can affect battery power are constant web surfing and the illumination you choose for your screen. all in all i love the phone so far..i havent had any problems with it yet and i kind of took a risk buying it even though it supposedly is crap but you'll never know unless you try for yourself. i have great reception even though i thought i wouldnt and everything that i heard or read was wrong with it seems to be working fine with my device. i had seen it somewhere and also read that it was cheap plasticy and the antenna look like it would fall off etc. mine seems really sturdy which i am soo thankfull for. maybe the phone is only good with the to go prepaid thing and not contracts..i dont know but i love this phone. its worth a try...

Hi! I can reset an assigned quick-dial key on my CF62T by clicking on the specific key number one time and immediately releasing it (ex. 3). The left fast key displays "Clear" and the right fast key displays the "phone number name" assigned to that quick-dial key. Clicking "clear" removed my previous assignment. I was then able to add the new assignment. Also, clicking on the "phone number name" brought me into a menu that allowed me to edit, delete, and perform several quick-key functions. I could not find any place where this is documented - it took me a while to figure it out.

I have trouble with my phone turning off unexpectedly and also not immediately delivering my calls or messages when they are sent to me (it can be several hours to a couple of days for me to get them). The CF62T has its quirks but it was free with activation so guess I can't expect too much.

I have this phone. When first looking at t-mobile service this was the cheapest flip phone they had. I recieved this phone as a gift for building a couple their first computer. My phone has version 95 firmware/software, but still turns itself off randomly. This was just the beginning of my problems, now after refilling my account for the second time, the phone randomly chooses not to ring. The other day a friend of mine called me, I heard it ring once, and then it no longer rang after that. The friend did not hangup and I had not answered the call yet.

Good news is, I called T-mobile customer support. They were really friendly, and since my phone is newer than a year, they told me they could probably replace it. I'm kind of skeptical about a replacement, because do they still have old Siemens CF62Ts lying around, seeing as you can't buy this phone anymore for the To-go service. I'm hoping that they are nice and upgrade me to the nice Samsung phone which costs just as much.

The only other complaint I have with this phone, is the volume is not loud enough, most of the time I cannot hear the person on the other end, and have to have them repeat themselves, yes the phone is turned all the way up. I almost want to put it on speaker phone and use it that way....

I too love this phone. I bought one of the first ones a year and a half ago, I needed a phone with no camera so it won't get confiscated at the reception of the hi-tech offices I visit for my job, and the loop antennae won't snap off in my pocket.
Then I got sick of ATT customer service in India, I couldn't even understand them, ( I speak 4 languages other than english), and their rates were high, so I switched to t-mobile, where customer service is in the US, they answer the phone promptly, and thier rates are excellent.
My phone stared shutting off at random, my software was the earliest version. I called t-mobile, which by pure chance has taken over the contract for the CF62, they gave me an RMA, I sent the phone in on a Wednesday two weeks ago, 9 days later, last Friday, they sent me a brand new phone via UPS 3 Day Select, with the new 95 version software, and it has worked perfectly ever since.
I use the pre-paid cards, I don't even have a monthly contract with t-mobile, and I give them a tremendous amount of credit for swapping my phone out for a brand new one, and sending it to me at the more expensive UPS rate than ground.
As far as reception goes, I live in the mountains in Colorado outside Vail, and I have never had a problem.
If you want a camera phone, well this is not the one for you, but if you want a nice looking, small cell phone that doesn't have an antennae that will snap off, for a good price, I recommend the CF62 in conjunction with t-mobile.

I traded in one bad phone for another! The cf62t is one of the worst phones i have ever had. It shuts off all the time, when i close it, when i lay it down, while i'm talking on it! I thank you for all your reviews, cause when i complain about it, they tell no one else seems to be having this problem! Thank you for confirming my sanity! Never buy or if given free, throw it away! Calling c/s is worse, no help at all or no replacement given, and no! i don't want the same phone in exchange....HELLO?

This is by far the worst device on the planet Earth! I've had it for eight months and I'm now replacing it with a Motorola v180. It draws you in with the nice silver case and then you try to use the thing. The first thing to go is the battery charge. If you want to talk on it for more then five minutes you have to have the unit plugged in and charging as you speak. Forget about the standby time - Siemens lies about that - it's nonexistent. I charged the phone for 24 hours the other day and got an hour out of the battery. Bad things do not stop at the battery...has anyone tried to get a successful signal from these things? I used it at the front of my house and walkedto the back where I lost the person I was talking with in a total of eighty feet! The only thing that worked like it was supposed to on this piece of landfill product is the speaker phone. My provider is now giving them away for free with contracts! I can't even give this away on a freecycle group because they'd probably end up kicking me off for offering it to others! If you see this phone anywhere either run away quickly or squash it like a bug!

p.s...don't expect help from Siemens either...they have you're money and they don't care!

The CF62 has few redeeming features. For starters, the CF62 is slow. Very slow. It can take up to a minute to load something like the phone book, which at this moment, has 10 contacts. When going to check my messages, it has actually frozen on me before. (I had to take out the battery) The included ring tones are god awful, and the backgrounds are not much better. (Granted this could be because of my provider, T-Mobile) The CF62 works as a cell phone, but not much else. You can make your own ring tones, but you are forced to record it on the microphone of the phone. One of the few features that sets it above other phones are the cool lights on the side, but those are only there for aesthetic value. The CF62 is a functional phone, but barely. It was free when I renewed my contract with T-Mobile, but I wish I had payed more to get a better phone.

Even if you get this phone for free, it is not cheap enough to make up for all the problems you will encounter. eventually you will just have to get another phone anyway, so hopefully you will skip all the trouble and just get another phone.

The two major problems are:
1) it powers down on its own. This is the biggest problem: It means you will miss important phone calls and you never know it has happened until you pick up and look at your phone. I have six phones replaced under warranty it keeps happening and happening...
2) phone is slow and sometimes hangs. i suspect bugg software. it is very slow scrolling through the phone book, can experience "delay" in responding to keys I've pressed and even miss numbers when dialing; and sometimes it doesn't save changes I have made to settings.

In short, this phone should never have pased Siemens quality control - and T-mobile shouldn't be selling the phone either. Or at least acknowledge that it is a "known issue" - so many users have complained about it but still no "official" acknowledgement.

The Siemens CF 62 has an inherent design defect. I initially bought mine in March 2005, and have gone through 4 of these units. The problem is that the unit randomly shuts itself off, and the fix offered? Double sided scotch tape to hold the battery in place. This lasts about two weeks, and then it is off to have the handset repalced. Needless to say, I am not happy with this product. My displeasure is compounded in that my service provider (Fido) will not allow me to trade up unless I purhcase a new handset. Not an option when they are unwilling to rectify this obvious flaw in the equipment they sell. The lesson: stay far, far, far away from this cell phone.

I've had a problem with the phone just shutting off. I contacted my provider (T-Mobile) and they instructed me to check the software version. It turns out I had .84 and anything before .85 had this problem. Then they proceeded to tell me I was 2 days out of warrenty and I would have to spend $80 on a new one.

Granted this problem had been going on for 6 months but it had been progressivly getting worse. I had a friend that had the same phone on T-Mobile and he managed to get his replaced within warrenty. His phone had the same problem.

I cant stand this phone. I had gotten it for free when my contract was up and it was just so cute I had to have it.
Bad mistake ... it does nothing but freeze on me and shut off and its extreamly slow!
The only good thing I've had with this phone is battery power. My battery lasts a very long time.
I'm a 16 year old girl ... we all know how long us teen girls can talk. But, aside from that ... the phone is horrible.
I cant wait till August when my contract is up again and I can finally get a new phone. This time I'll do some research on the phone I want first and not just go by how cute a phone is.

when my mom signed up for the plan with tmobile, we both got this phone. she loves it and i freakin HATE it!

Sometimes when u use this phone, it just shuts off. And that so pisses me off. it takes 1 minute to turn on, and then about another minute to load the phone itself, like my contacts. Thats probably the reason tmobile doesnt support this phone anymore, they probably got mad at people callin them about this problem.

Another reason, the phone is so fat. Its bulky.

I really stress you to not get this phone.

What to say.oh, dear, oh, my. Why did I buy this piece o crap? It's slow in just about every way. When you activate the clamshell answer function, you sometimes have to wait 2 seconds for it to actually connect. The recording function is a joke - I did a recording through the air right in front of a speaker and the playback was so weak it was like listening to a phone call. Sometimes when I add a new name to my contacts list it makes me wait up to a minute to finish the process. Ummm.what else.supposedly supports real sound and polyphonic ringtones but in reality most are incompatible with it. The loudest ring setting is still weak. The ringtones available on the phone are idiotic.

The silver edge started wearing almost immediately; I've had the phone for 6 months, and now the plastic skin is blistering and peeling off.

Whoever designed this phone should be tied up over a very, very large anthill.
