Just thought I'd share because it seems there are a lot of people looking at the t610 in this forum.

First, I absolutely love the phone - quirks and all.

I had a nokia (8260 I think) and it fit in the coin pocket on my jeans quite nicely. Then I went to a bigger, color screen clamshell jobbie. I hated it the whole year I had it. When I saw that the t610 was the same size as my nokia and had all the features I needed from my PDA (mostly anyway), I got all hot and bothered - yup, I'm a gadget freak!

Mostly what I wanted was something the right size, with the basic features I needed from my PDA (calendar, phone book, task list, etc.). I'm just tired of carrying around my PDA. The Microsoft smart phones aren't available yet in the US, so that was out.

I've heard many say they hated the screen in the daylight. Quite frankly, I've been very pleased with the screen. It's extremely crisp indoors and inside my car with full sunlight. It was even very clear and bright while walking to my office this morning with the morning sun. About the only time it fails is during noon-time with full sun directly on it.

I failed miserably to sinc with Outlook using the Bluetooth USB adapter from Belkin. I gave up and went with the USB cable. It worked first time and every time. I also got the little desktop stand. One note, however, the USB cable doesn't fit the desktop stand very well. The noise canceling jobbie (interesting lingo from an electrical engineer I know) on the cable inteferes, so you have to kind of bend it out one side. Another note on the USB cable, it uses a lot of your phone's battery power. Either plug in a charger at the same time (which is possible with the SE USB cable), or unplug the phone from the cable once you've synchronized. The really nice thing about the USB cable is that you can set the software to autosync. Thay way whenever you plug the phone in, it syncs automatically. As for uploading pictures, I just email them to myself. No biggie with the phone plan I have.

Speaking of email and phone plan, I'm using t-mobile. I was distressed to find out that the email doesn't really work unless you just happen to have a pop server available to you outside your corporate firewall. So I went to the trouble of setting up a free hotpop account (www.hotpop.com). That worked just fine, but you have to either manually tell your phone to check for new email, or have it check at some interval (again, more battery sucking). Then by accident, I figured out how to do it a better way. It seems that if you send an MMS message, t-mobile happily sends it out to email for you. It even puts the correct return address on it so someone can reply and you get it right away. The returns are pushed, so no need to poll them. I was thinking the MMS was something special, but you can just add text and select "email" as the destination instead of a phone. You don't have to do full MMS. Sure wish they would have told me this before I spent hours messing around with t-mobile support, my phone, searching this forum, etc.

Problems...
* Still not sure what the bluetooth problem was.
* If for some reason I turn my phone off, it usually takes 10-20 presses of the power button to get it to turn back on.
* Sure wish they would have used a VGA camera. It might have actually been useful at that resolution. As it is, you can only use the pictures for general information purposes. Like when you are shopping for something, but not sure if you want to buy it. You can email your wife a picture of the object and get her opinion.
* there is no address field in the phone book. I guess that's why they didn't call it an address book instead huh? icon_razz.gif I sure with they would have allowed for this though. It's the one piece lacking for the full PDA functionality that I need.

Basically, I love the phone. Even if you just use it as a phone (go figure), it's a great phone. My wife does keep her analog/digital phone, however, because the service area for the next generation phones just really isn't that great in the western US yet. When we travel, we rely on her phone for safety.

Sorry this is a book, but I figured I could get it all down at once instead in a bunch of different topics.

Ok Here goes....

Negatives first...

1- Ring tone starts quiet, gets louder - no way to change
2- Ring tone doesnt last long enough - always miss it (The MOST annoying thing)
3- Calender is horrible to use - Shud me more like 8310
4- Cant add Birthdays of people like the Nokia 8310 - Calender is terrible
5- When a number is dialled - Always prompts to ask whether it should be saved - no way to switch prompt off
6- Contacts cant have addresses put in - no section dedicated to that
7- Cant press and hold down joystick on a number for quick dialing - have to click and click
8 - No zoom on pics - like V200 Samsung
9- When searching 4 name, it only goes to first letter - no option to speed things up and add second letter (when text messaging only)
10 - When sending a message if you select the wrong name, you are not able to go a step backwards and select the correct one instead you have to go through the menu from the beginning
11 - Cannot choose where to save messages or phone numbers - i.e sim or phone
12 - When using predictive text if you have chosen the wrong word from a selection, if you shud press backspace then the selection should again be available but it isnt instead you must delete whole word.
13 - Memory is atrocious, only 2mb
14 - Can be difficult to see and make out screen when in sunlight

Positives...

1- looks in my opinion very distinguished, simple yet very nice. The pitch black screen and surrounding square with the brushed aluminium looks sophisticated and trendy.
2- Connectibility, to PC's and other phones is brilliant, bluetooth, infrared and emailing. Options are always available when you need them.
3- Download ringtones to your PC and send them over to your phone, that goes for picture, games and other software too
4- Colour is good and pictures can come out quite clear
5- Text messaging on it is nice though it takes getting used to from a nokia phone
6- Long replys on messages is great especially when the message you write overspills the norma 160 max character limit
7- Ringtones sound very good, download "rock your body" or "still dre" or "1000 miles" from this site you'll know what i mean
8- Software you get with phone is brilliant, customise and make your own wallpaper from jpegs you allready have
9- Download java games - brilliant though they do seem a bit difficult on the phone. tetris is an exception and is a joy to play
10- Phone status which can be obtained at any time is a very useful option allowing user to see what features are currently enabled
11- Battery lasts a loooong time
12- recurring alarm is very good for people who use their phones for alarms!

to be continued...

I bought the Sony Ericsson T610/T616 about two months ago, and I won't stand here and lie and tell you that I'm not happy. It's a great phone with some pretty neat features, and for people like me that need a phone to text message during class and use it on the go, it's definitely appropriate.

Pros.

The Camera - I've seen other people's Cameras, and frankly, I can't tell what people are saying. Versus the Samsung (something-E17)'s camera, the only thing different about it is that it is a slightly darker picture. This of course is expected because the t610 has no built in flash feature like the Samsung. I have also seen the Sanjo's (sp?) camera, and it is a little less clear and darker than the T610's pictures. Overall, I don't see anything wrong with the camera at all, other than the fact that it seems like a flash accessory, which is available, is needed.

The Navigation - Navigating through the menus is quite simple when you get used to it. You hold the power button down until it powers up, you press the joystick in, and there's your menu which you can easily move through using the joystick. I've never gotten "lost" on my phone, and I've never really read the manual.

Text Messaging - It's really quite easy, and it doesn't require much getting used to. Some people have commented that the "spacebar" button that's located on the # key takes a lot of getting used to. This is completely not true. If you have some sort of problem where you can't press the # key, move the joystick to the right to get a space.

Contact Book - The contacts feature of this phone is something in which I am very pleased. For example, if somebody calls you that is not on your contacts list, you can select their number from the calls list, and directly from there you can make a new contact with the number pre-entered into the "home" or "mobile" field of the new entry. This is very convenient because you don't need to copy the number down onto a seperate piece of paper to add it to your contacts' list.

Music DJ and Drawing - These are two fun things that are kind of like games, and you can spend a lot of time playing around with them. The music dj is especially fun because it is very easy to use and can come out pretty cool... it would be nice to be able to create your own ringtones though..

The last Pro that I can think of is basically everything that I don't mention in the Cons list, next.

Cons.

Some people argue that the buttons are a little small compared to some of the Motorolla and Samsung phones. I GUESS this could be a con, but I don't really know since it really isn't an issue with me.

No flash on the camera, but I already mentioned that.

The Memory is the only major thing wrong with this phone. If you are someone who likes to download or enter a lot into your phone (like me), you will be fairly enraged at the small amount of memory presented to you by your shiny new Ericsson phone. It's not an extremely small amount, but yes, it could be a lot better. For example, right now I have 69 pictures (including the 1 kb ones and the predefined ones), 24 contacts, 5 games and 4 themes. It's not a big deal, but I really don't have much space left, maybe for five more pictures and then it's full like a relative on thanksgiving.

Suggestions for the next ericsson phone:

- Let us select any sound file we want to select to use as our ringtone. Recordings, melodies created by Music DJ, etc.

- Make a built-in flash so that people won't complain about the darkness and low quality of the camera. I am very aware there is a "Night Mode", which does lighten the picture up a bit, but not without sacrificing precious quality and by creating a half-second delay when moving the camera (you'll get the image a half-second after your camera locks onto it)

That's it though. For your money, whoa, let me tell you, this is a very good deal. I payed $99.99 for mine after the plan with Cingular, and I am nothing short of satisfied. Get yours today icon_smile.gif

I have owned my T610 for about 6 mnths now so i have a pretty good knowledge of both it's capabilities & flaws.

First of all the pro's of the T610: icon_biggrin.gif

1) Crystal clear polyphonic ringtones, but ascending ringtone mode only which is annoying.

2) USB cable compatible.

3) Pic quality of downloaded pics from internet & pc is good.

4) User friendly toggle joystick & Window style icons allow for easy navigation through main menus.

5) One of the handiest features of the T610 is setting the alarm times for your entire weekly schedule. I find this option invaluable.

6) Ability to delete all mssgs in one go.

7) Setting your fav pic as wallpaper. Screen saver is a nice touch too.

icon_cool.gif Txt mssg print small but clear against white background, fitting more words in at the one time without having to scroll down as much. U'll notice you can also send chain sms' several pgs long as well an option to multi send an sms to all ur friends in one go.

9) Mini golf is a classic, but only thing is, u can't control the volume if u wanna play it late at nite.

10) Bluetooth ability is awesome!

11) Sleek, small, & suprisingly durable. It looks brittle & glassy but iv'e dropped it a few times on hard surfaces without any damage apart from recieving a few minor scratches.

Now for the cons: icon_surprised.gif

1) Camera quality is poor & grainy, rendering it almost unusable. Infact, the pictures

taken by the camera are of such bad quality I wonder why they bothered in the first place.

2) Has a disappointing memory capacity of 2mb with no ability or option to add more (eg, memory stick, memory expansion chip) like many of the Nokia's. The nokia 7250 for example has over 64 mb memory!! Thats a huuuge disparity. Many of u like myself who love downloading stuff to their phone will be royally p*ssed off.
Actually this glaring oversite is probably the biggest gripe i have of the T610. However, if u don't mind constantly deleting older pics/ringtones as u go, this isnt a major problem.

3) Has an unnecessary amount of connectivity points to the internet including one at the side of the phone. No good if u forget to put the phone lock on & put the phone in your pocket. I often find myself connecting to the internet by mistake because of this.

4) Ringtones begin quietly b4 getting louder (ascending), which will sometimes cause u to miss calls - plus u cannot alter this.

5) Battery only lasts 2-3 days tops.

6) Lack of accessories & most of the existing add ons are poor.

7) Excessive useless selections/options to get through just to send off a simple txt mssg.

icon_cool.gif Txt mssging is slower than the Nokia's, & can be tedious &/or confusing using the T9 imput method. Also, the location of the 'space bar' button on the '#' key rather than the '0' will take time getting used to if u've switched from a Nokia.

9) Too many rubbish options u don't give a stuff about, while not enough options to modify some of the more annoying automatic settings.

10) It's annoying the way the clock screen overrides everything including the screensaver when u leave the phone idle for a few secs - again, there is no ability to turn this off.

11) Almost impossible to see the screen details in broad daylight. The irony of this is that at night, the screen has too much glare & makes it feel like ur pupils could melt. Lol u can't win, but admittably u can reduce the contrast to tone this down.

12) Games are pretty shallow & boring overall compared to some of the latest nokia's, though Mini Golf is good.

13) The screen is big but the resolution is a bit dull.

USER TIP! Hold down the on/off button rather than pressing it once. This will guarantee the phone switches on/off. I notice many complain about this.

I recommend these modifications for the next Sony Ericsson.

1) More Memory!!! Or atleast an ability to increase the default memory capacity.
2) More colors & clearer screen definition & resolution.
3) Ability to modify ringtones.
4) Direct access to Txt Mssging without all the annoying options/menus.
5) Changeable color cases to add individuality.
6) A screen surface which doesnt require constant cleaning with lense tissue.
7) More options to modify, switch, alter or delete certain bits, especially the default settings.

A final Point, i notice u can't download screensavers (Gifs) onto the T610 using the cable from ur pc 'as gifs'. They come out on the phone frozen (still) or like any otha pic which makes them pointless. Perhaps someone knows how to make them work properly, please let me know.

Conclusion.

If u want a stylish phone with some nice features (despite some being limited & flawed) the T610 is ideal for you. If however, your one of those types like me who likes bombarding your phone with new stuff all the time, u may find the lousy 2mb memory limit too restrictive. Apart from that, it's a pretty good phone, i recommend you check it out but be aware it aint all that, but better than most on the market right now. Goodluck. icon_rolleyes.gif

I've been the lucky owner of a Sony Ericsson t610 for about two weeks now and I must say that it is the best phone I've ever owned (I've had t68's, t39's and all other kinds of Ericsson and Sony Sony Ericsson phones before).

The best part about the phone is the new but very simple user interface that lets you take pictures and send them via mail without any trouble. However one should keep in mind that the camera is very rudementary and has low quality and the lightmeter is not very good (this causes the pictures to be either over or under exposed). But none the less the camera should be considered as a fun accessory and not as a main feature. The reason for buying this phone is the excellent communications, no matter if it is GSM, DCS, PCS, Bluetooth, IR or GPRS, the phone handles them all without any trouble. The new "instant access to internet" - button located on the side of the phone is a welcome feature, with the click of one button you are connected to your startpage.

But there has to be something wrong with it as well, of course there is. The better the phone the more prominent the minor faults become. One of the most annoying things is the STN display which doesn't have very good visability in daylight. Another thing that's been bothering me is the lack of blinking diods, there is no way to tell if the phone is on when the display is in sleep mode - this could be something you get used to but I still miss it after two weeks.

In short, if you want the best phone with all the gadgets at a reasonable price the t610 is the best choice for you. But if you intend to use the camera on your holliday you better invest the money in a seperate digital camera.

Once upon a time, I tried this phone's ancestor, the Sony-Ericsson T68i, and found it majorly wanting. In the interim, seeking a simple, reliable phone with Bluetooth, I went retro to an Ericsson R520m. This phone puts me back in the present. The T610 is a near-perfect combination of size, features, call quality, and connectivity, and except for minor points, I can't imagine a way to much improve on it.

Pluses:
Tiny size (see "minuses" below)
Easy Bluetooth connectivity
Good signal selectivity (dropped calls are rare and it can get a usable signal where a lot of phones get nothing)
Ringtone quality and ease of adding
Uses standard S-E accessories I already have
Battery lasts a reasonable amount of time
Good data throughput
Camera quality not bad

Minuses:
clock screensaver can't be changed
Ringtones all start soft, get loud (can't change, even though there's a menu choice that would purport to do just that)
No internal monophonic ringtone composer
No high-capacity battery available from Sony-Ericsson (though offered in the aftermarket)
No speakerphone
Small enough to lose in a pocket or elsewhere

All in all, a terrific small phone that connects to everything flawlessly. It talks nicely to my Macs, my PCs, my Sony PDAs, and friends' BT devices. Coupled with a decent service provider and a decent data plan, this could put you in connect anywhere, any time.

Im getting annoyed at some of the comments from other reviews. Most of the things they say about this phone are true, its a great phone but there are a few which they would realise aren't problems if they just read the handbook.

Firstly, it is easy to write a quick text message, quicker than a nokia in fact. All you do is push the joy stick down and you're ready. No need to scroll through loads of menus.

Secondly, yes the camera isnt great quality, but no camera phone is. If you want a digital camera buy one. However this camera is better than most i have seen on phones. And it has some great effects, the best being the negative effect which makes the pics look like the negatives from a film.
It also doesnt have a zoom but i dont think any similarly priced phone has a zoom, so you cant really complain.

All the other things you have read from the millions of reviews before mine are correct, the ring tone does set off quiet and the memory is not massive compared to other phones.

But for the price, it beats most other mobile phones. Just look at the list of features.

And its as simple to use as a nokia. icon_surprised.gif

I recommend buying one today and another one tomorrow.

Camera quality is poor & grainy, rendering it almost unusable. ... This is a comment you made about the Sony Ericsson T610.
I have just recently bought the Sony Ericsson T610 after having a Motorola C350, a very loyal and friendly phone with the basic features that every mobile addict needs ( except an integrated camera!) - so when i saw the Sony Ericsson T610 sitting in the phone shop there was no doubt in my mind that it was the phone for me. I was obviously pretty weary as i'd never tested the phone previously and asked the store clerk if i would be able to test the camera feature just to clear my mind of any worries before buying. My jaw literally dropped at the clear image that stood before me. For someone to make a review that the camera quality was Poor and grainy.. and that rendering is almost unusable.. is appauling! it's definately giving off the wrong impression to new sony ericsson lovers.
but dont fret.. i am here to clear your worries..The phone is a fantastic buy, and although the 2mb memory may disappoint some people i'm happy of the clear and crisp camera which not every mobile provides.
xx Lil_G xx

icon_arrow.gif I've never been one for writing reviews, but having just got my 'mits' on a T610 - I just had to.
I've only had the phone a week, but I'm so impressed with it.

icon_cool.gif One other thing I should point out, I wasn't a big SonyEricsson fan and have only ever had Nokia mobile phones before, and would n't even look at any other make.
But a friend who happens to work in a mobile phone retailer was 'ranting' about the SonyEricsson T610, when I went to the shop intending to buy a 7250.

The SonyEricsson T610 really is superb phone, although to me it kinda lacks the style of the Nokia's it certainly makes up for it in functionality.

icon_wink.gif On the negative side, the 2Mb internal memory is a little bit disapointing. It should have been fitted with a removable 'Smart Media' type card, like the ones that you get in a digital cameras.
Although up-loading your photos to your PC regularly and being selective with your themes and sounds, you should be OK.
It can also be a little diffcult to see the screen in bright sun-light.
The only other complain that I might have is the 'in-car charger' comes out of the phone too easily if you pick the phone up to answer or make a call.

icon_exclaim.gif One other thing that 'Nokia converts' should look out for though (and it's only a minor gripe) - and that is when texting, the space key is the '#' key on the T610, and not the '0' as it is on the Nokia's.

icon_rolleyes.gif I'm not going to go on too much about it, but all I will say is that you really wont be disapointed by the SonyEricsson T610, especially if (like me, & you probably are, or you wouldn't be reading this!) you're a bit of a PC freak!

icon_biggrin.gif I'd give it 9 out of 10 any day

I have had the T610 for two weeks now. In summary, it's a very good phone, and I'm happy to have it. It's beautiful, with great applications underneath.

I was a Nokia loyal user before I found out that my need for Bluetooth-equipped-but-not-too-big-a-phone was not satisfied by the wide range of Nokia series mobiles.

After using this handset for two weeks, I would like to summarize some of the pluses and minuses:

(+) Bluetooth works flawlessly, nice design and very stylish (caught the attention of others!), nice screen, full features, and great games, too! (Mini Golf rocks!) This is the first time I've enjoyed playing on my mobile phone because games from my old Nokia phones weren't compelling enough to lure me from my Pocket PC games.

(-) Signal is relatively weak compared to my old Nokia (but still ok), poorly written user manual, menu is not as intuitive as Nokia's (I still can't figure out how to do a speed dial), mediocre battery performance (only two days with normal use), rather poor-quality images (compared to Nokia 7650), creates a lot of "noises", especially when taking pictures in low ambient light. But don't get me wrong.

If the rather high price doesn't distract you, this terminal is a recommended buy. If you want style, this definitely will add to your credentials. You are a mobile worker who puts connectivity on your top requirements, nothing else is better, even though the Sony Ericsson T68i is better in terms of value (price vs performance). If you want better-quality pictures, then go for the Nokia 7650! For now, with the T610, I'm a happy man!

I say regular user because I do not use my mobile several hours a day, nor do I need some of the features that the phone has. I am, however, someone who does a lot of research before any major purchase. My research left me with one choice in this case: the Sony Ericsson T610.

I had waited to see this phone in the flesh for about 6 months, and I'm glad I did. Every other phone I have seen with a built-in camera have, without exception, failed to impress me. I did not expect fantastic quality, but it seemed that I had to either settle for below-par camera quality or use a clip-on camera accessory. No thanks.

Basically there are a slew of phones that offer Bluetooth, colour screens, infra-red, voice dialling and MMS, but I wanted one that was sexy, light, with a quality camera built-in. The T610 is the first phone to pull it off.

My friends, on their first look at my phnoe, are amazed. They have all seen other camera phones and I've seen ther reaction: "Cool!" It's a novelty for about 5 minutes. They take one look at my phone and can't beleive how small and light it is. Than I turn the camera on with one press, and the jaw drops. How can I put this simply...YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER QUALITY CAMERA IN A PHONE THIS SMALL ON THE MARKET!

Don't be a tool and get a phone with a clip-on camera. Don't get a flip-phone, those are for Trekkers (beam me up, Scotty). I know this is not a very technical review, but it's the review for the rest of us. The best piece of advice I can give is this: DO NOT BUY A CAMERA PHONE UNTIL YOU HAVE PHYSICALLY HANDLED THE T610 IN-STORE.

I'm happy to answer any questions. Cheers icon_smile.gif

Okay, so my first phone was a Sony (with the jog-dial, many years ago), because it was the only phone I had. Next up was a Samsung clamshell.

I recently got the T610 because it was cheap with 1 year contract with T-Mobile.

So far, I'm thoroughly happy with it! Despite its apparent age compared with other phones.

Bad:
- Fingerprint magnet (as others have pointed out
- Keys are a bit smallish and not "obvious" to the fingers (I don't have fat hands).
- Included software (on CD) doesn't install or even uninstall properly on my WinXP! (It's a legal copy! No virus).

Good:
- Nice heft, feels solid
- fairly compact size.

- I have lousy reception at my residence, but I seem cursed with lousy reception with every phone I have no matter where my residence. However, with even only 1 bar, it seems happy to connect
- Camera. Others have said it sucks. I think it has low light sensitivity. I took a picture in a bright room, it's actually quite clear (for a cell phone).
- Nice customizability!
- Increasing ringer. Others have griped about it. Not true here, there's an option to turn the increasing ring on/off, so that's no longer an issue.
- So far excellent battery life, despite me playing games with it.
- If you want Bluetooth, it's one of the cheaper phones that has it.
- IR works flawlessly as advertised and uploading pictures to it was a snap
- I like the joystick and menu system, though it is NOT for action games!
- Screen seems clear and bright. The screen clock is a nice feature when on standby, though you have to tilt it in the light to see it.

Overall, I'm quite impressed. Even though it has loads of features and gadgets (games, e-mail, calendar, etc), it still remains easy to use for its primary duty as a phone.

I would recommend it if you want a feature packed phone for less money. If you're looking for the latest and greatest, then this is probably not it, but you'll have to shell out a lot more cash.

I guess not many people do a followup. But sometimes impressions change after usage.
I started out reasonably happy with this phone (see my previous post). I was sort of concerned I was getting an "old" version compared to T637 and many other phones.

Here's what I think now:

Bad:
- I still think the keys are a bit hard to find, especially compared to the T637.
- In bright sunlight, screen isn't so easy to read, but not too hard. On the other hand, only those with reflective LCD's will be easy to read in sun.
- Memory. The 1 or 2MB I have seems awfully small if you like to personalize a lot. I've not run out yet, but I imagine I will have to be careful with it sooner or later. It's good for about 100 pictures or ringtones? Something like that...
- Hard to find accessories (at least around here). Seems everyone sells Samsung, Motorola or Nokia. Have to resort to Internet.
- Contacts list. I don't know about other phones. T610 has options for "groups". But this only applies to messaging it seams. I can't have, for example, a "work" phonebook and a "personal" phonebook.
- If you like a camera, a high-res one might be nice. But compared to the T637, just as good (that one is a digital resize to 640x480, not originally that size).
- My co-workers ostracize me because I don't have a clamshell icon_wink.gif

Good:
- Those keys. Though not as functional, way more stylish (the entire phone overall actually!) than the T637.
- Despite being a fingerprint magnet, case is quite durable. I just dump it in my backpack or my pant pocket so far.
- Lag in menu after 1st use when turned on, but after that, no problem. I really like the menu system now, the whole user interface is very easy to use.
- Image and Sound (ringers) upload VERY easy with laptop. Just activate IR. Images can handle JPG. Ringers are just MIDI files, there's a ton floating around. But if it's just instrumental
- Battery reasonably good. With my light usage, I usually don't have to recharge for, I think 4-5 days.

Overall, I am probably more pleased with it now than when I started. It's a solid little full featured phone (even compared to many newer models from other manufacturers). So far reliable, nice looking and easy to use.

Been a user for Sony Ericsson T68, T68i and T610. Consider this phone the best amongst the three models I have used so far. Have used it for the past week without any hang-ups like what I have encountered when using T68 series.

Switched over to Nokia 8910i for a while after my bad experience with T68 series but find that Nokia does not have any new innovation over a new model and keep on using the old software to power the phone. Having lots of problems with the phone (this is the first time I am having problems with Nokia phones). Bluetooth is not working as advertise. Saw this new T610 and decided to give Sony Ericsson another try, after seeing one of my buddies got it.

Almost forgive Sony Ericsson for its past problems with their products. Bluetooth works like a charm, phone does not have the hang-up problem as previous versions. Excellent screen with high resolution colors. Only beef with it is that Sony can design a much better cover as I find that with my oily face, I have to clean the screen everytime after I used it. I guess that is why they include the soft cleaning cloth. Secondly, the SMS could use a lot of improvement. I find that I type faster than the phone can display, which is on par with what I experience with T68 series. But other than that, I am pretty happy with my current phone.

The t610 was released here about a week ago with a price tag equivalent to about US$ 400! Not really a high price to pay considering all the features it has! The screen has a relatively large 65K color screen display in ratio to the phone size ... that alone would push a techie to buy it! Also, you can download polyphonic tones - about 30+... and is slighly smaller than the nokia 7210... it's got simple, sleek lines and looks elegant because of the aluminum finish casing.

Downside is, there's no removable media, so ur stuck with about 2mb of memory... not much, really! especially when you're keen on taking pictures! Plus... you have to clean the phone everytime you use it coz it's highly sensitive to dirt! There's a piece of sony ericsson cloth that comes with it though... something you usually see included in a pair of sunglasses! icon_rolleyes.gif

Great features, great fun! i HIGHLY recommend this phone! it's terrific and compared to the Nokia 7250, 7210 (no offense!) phones, it's a blast! icon_lol.gif

Two weeks with T610 and the honey moon time is over. The hone is rich and beautyfull - so it looks very atractive as a bride, but as a wife it lacks durability, inteligence and strenght.

Strenghts:
Look, personalisation (no other phone can match SE themes), build in camera (not so good, byt always there), connectivity (e-mail client, BT, Irda), voive dialing (40 numbers, works great with car bluetooth).

Weaknesses:
personalisation (in terms of menu and buttons, not graphics) - there is a special button for WAP and it cannot be used for enything else, there are two icons in menu (internet services and Sonyericsson) totally useless, there is an option to turn of rising rings, but it does not work, the e-mail client cannot receive any attachments (Siemens S-55 can), you can print with BT (but I have not seen such printer) but not with irda (avialable in many printers), joystick is not fully utilised - (why you need an extra button to given exit menu), screen is difficult to read in bright light, bpdu is prone to scratches
and the most important:
battery lasts 3 days (swithed off for the night) probably because the light turns on whenever you touch the phone (even when locked).

Summary - amusement over usability.

Personaly I've never been happy with the Ericsson phones from the begining, but that has changed my total out look when I got the tested the new T610 out. I liked it so much that I bought it myself. Granted it's done a couple of weird startups, and the ringtones start low and go high, but none of that matters to the capabilitys of the Bluetooth, Voice Dialing, Voice Answering, Theme's, personal touches, and the quickness of the menu. All phones have thier quirks, and that's just becuase they are not perfect in any way! But the T610 allows me to do whatever I want. I love the camera effects, and the ability to put it in night mode so you can get more light. I like how fast the mms works on the phone. Anyone who has a problem with this phone just dosn't know how to work it, and that's it! It's the best phone on the market in my mind.

Up until recently, my phone of choice was a second hand T616. I used it for about a year until something took a big chunk of material out of the screen. I won a replacement faceplate off of eBay, but I was only able to remove one of the screws from the housing. The rest of them I was unable to get free. None of the torx screwdrivers I had would work with them. It was like they were an "inbetween" size. I guess that when I took it apart, I broke something. After that people were unable to hear me and I would get a ton of static on the line. I wish I just would have left well enough alone because it was a great phone. Probably the best I've had yet. I've even contemplated bidding on another one on eBay. I'm back to using my T721 which is an ok phone. But it doesn't compare to the T616. I highly recommend this phone if you are looking for something really reliable. If I purchase a replacemnt, I'll probably buy a case for it, so I can avoid this again in the future. Now that it's gone, I'm finding it hard to adjust to my old phone. icon_sad.gif

1>an amazin screen 2>a good camera 3}the memory is a bit small but u can transfer the pics to ur comp via email and hencs save space 4>it looks too good .
according to me i think its better than the 3650 is u look at the 3650 as a phone which u cant
the t610s screen has a good refresh rate and it is quite big .The only bad things abt the screen is that it is very sensitive to dust and you cant see very well in direct sunlightthe bluetooth works all th time .its worth the money. It got a rating of 90% in the mobile choice magazine september and got the award for excellence 2003.it looks amazin in the night

I had to make a very tough decision before buying a colour phone and after getting this t610 i have no regrets.Even though there are some bad features such as the memory,no FM,no folders for saving msgs, but the display and the look of the phone over takes them all.really the best colour display i have seen till now,and even the picture quality from the camera is awesome.

In a world where nokia had almost conquered the mobile phone market this is a good challenge for al the other colour phones.Usually it takes a lots of guts to choose any other brand other than nokia in this part of the world but a great value for money.

Offcourse i should talk abt the connectivity, its got blue tooth, infrared, gprs and they are in great shape.I find gprs exceptionally fast.

Some addition in memory and changeable covers should have made this phone a master piece.and i also find that the buttons to be more appropriate instead of the joy stick.

I bought this phone four days ago after going through a Nokia 8390/Motorolav60i/ Back to the 8390 on At&T, over the past year. I loved my 8390 but being it was the first gsm Nokia phone, it had its problems and as newer phones came out it lacked alot of the features these other phones offered, not to mention it is completely obsolete as of current. Back to the t616, nothing but good things to say about this phone. It's reception has been good so far, the features are amazing, a little hard to get used to due to formats are totally different from Nokia and its taking time to get used to, the only complaints i might have, and not really a complaint but more of something i have to get used to are that when saving a number into the phone it feels more like a process, taking 30 seconds or so per number, i don't use outlook though i probably should and this process would have been alot easier. But thats the only complaint i have, the phone is still new but coming from someone who replaces cell phones more often than most people replace jeans, i think this one is going to stay for awhile.

This is not a real phone - it is a toy. If you are interested in a productivity tool that will get the job done this is not the phone for you. Menues are clumsy disorganised and poorly thought out. The joy stick is toy like with poorly thought out functions and frequent missed commands. Simple tasks take endless clicks and joyless stick manuvers. The phone crashes frequently. The included ring tones and the down loadable ring tones are juvinile and no mature adult would want to be associated with these childish 'tunes'.The options seem endless but usefull customization is just not there. If you want to spend all of your time wading thur menu after menu this is the phone for you. I got mine for free and I can honestly say it was not worth it. Come on sony is this the best you can do.
