Sprint PPC-6700
Reviewer: k1ngart on Tue Jul 25, 2006
I have had the ppc-6700 for just over a month now, and without a doubt its the next level of technology to be held in your hand, however the OS still has a few bugs to work out. Also i had to take my 1st one back as it totally stopped workinUnderstand how to set this device up will take a little while but once its going then you are on the fast track. Being an IT consultant its important to be in the loop all the time about everything and this helps. i can get my email updates and reply right back however support for setting up your pop3 account is lacking from serivce providers but the mobile section on Microsoft.com helps. The storage memory is somewhat small for those that want to pack information but if you get a good sized memory card you can work around that. I use the battery to capasity just about everyday so i would invest in a extended battery pack but if you have a home, car, and usb charger then you are good to go. I like that you can have voice setup for applications as well as for use with your bluetooth.
For the price the device is worth it, the only probems i find is that
1) i have a problem with keeping a signal and it dropping my calls when i have a full set of bars.
2) I find lately i have to soft reset the device as it stops responding but that could be my that my device is packed with contacts, ringers, alarms, and events.
Overall i find that i am happy with my purchase but please set it up throughly before trying to use your ppc-6700 while driving you wont have time to use the stylus or hunt and peck. I think i have found the all around device that will last me for a year at least...

The PPC-6700 Is Nice!
Reviewer: ronboykin on Fri May 12, 2006
I like the 6700 Sprint phone. The EV-DO system is clearly faster than the old system of data access and the added Wi-Fi feature clearly tightens up the phone's appeal. There's plenty of room for storage with its mini SD slot. I use a 1GB mini SD card to store music Mp3s, programs, games and more. I'm a musician so I listen to a lot of music. I also store a program on the storage card that lets me stream radio and TV. The 6700 is a complete media/communication solution that won't disappoint you. What I don't like about the 6700 is the lack of full integration with Sprint's picture mail system. With the former 6600 and other picture mail phones, from Sprint, you could completely manage your picture mail right from the phone. Let me explain. On the Audiovox 6600(Audiovox was bought by Utstarcom), when you take a picture and send it to someone's email or cell phone, the picture is automatically uploaded to your upload folder on the Sprint picture mail server. Now you can manage your picture mail account from the 6600. You can create new folders, copy pictures, delete pictures, etc. All from the PPC-6600 phone. The PPC-6600 has an interface to the Sprint picture mail server built right into it. You have to have a Sprint picture mail account of course. The PPC-6700, on the other hand, doesn't even recognize the Sprint picture mail server at all unless you tell it to. I've found a work around, in other words a alternative route. I think Audiovox or Utstarcom decided that complete Sprint picture mail integration wasn't as important as EV-DO/Wi-Fi technology. I have to admit that I was disappointed despite the fact that I gained high speed data access and Wi-Fi with the 6700. Most phones with a camera can send pictures to email addresses and other Sprint picture phones so I figured that I could send pictures from my phone to my picture mail account's message address (same as sending a picture to a Sprint phone number@pm.sprintpcs.com) and then dump my pictures to the appropriate user created folder while accessing my picture mail account from any computer on the internet. Now I can manage my pictures from my phone via its internet browser. It would certainly be nice to not have do go to a regular internet computer to dump the pictures to the Sprint picture server. It really wouldn't be too much trouble for Sprint or Utstarcom and the developers of the picture mail server to implement a 6700 interface to the Sprint picture mail server. Did you get all of that? Whew! I'm not sure I explained this clearly enough for myself! So much for the picture stuff. The 6700 has a much smaller form which makes it easier to hold on to. I suspect the bigger 6600 was hard to hold because of it's size so customers probably complained that they dropped it more often than not. The slide out keyboard is easier to use than the keyboard on 6600 if you don't have thumb nails but I liked the 6600's slide out keyboard better because it had much better illumination. Battery life is acceptable as long as you keep the backlight from staying on too long. You can also save battery power by reducing the backlight's brightness. The ideal situation is to purchase a second standard or extended battery. I have a extended battery as a second battery. The included cradle/charger will charge the phone and a extra battery. I don't use the Wi-Fi right now so I can't comment on it. I would probably would use it if I was somewhere where there was a weak Sprint signal and the Wi-Fi was free but I live in the San Francisco/Emeryville where EV-DO reception is very strong. My internet browsing is almost as fast as my home DSL but the mobile Internet Explorer can't handle some web pages that have complicated scripting but most web pages do display normally. I haven't been able to access my bank account's detail page ever since it was redesigned! Darn! Oh well! I have go to my laptop computer for that or use the new Thunderhalk II browser that gives you desktop like web browsing on Windows mobile devices. Speaking of laptops, if your laptop or desktop is equipped with blue tooth you can use the 6700 as wireless modem for going on the internet. It's fabulous but Sprint will not like this unless you arrange it with them. I use DSL mostly with my desktop computer and a wireless router with my laptop. You can also sync your 6700 with a laptop over bluetooth or the infrared port. I just use the supplied sync cable. The new software update adds some little improvements plus voice dial capability which is fine but not as good as Microsoft Voice Command version 1.5. If you like Pocket PCs and you have Sprint or Verizon service the 6700 is just the item you need.
