Audiovox SMT5600 Review - Storage, Connectivity and Conclusion


Storage


Audiovox SMT5600 EmailWith 64 MB of total memory, approximately 28 MB is available for storage. 32 MB of RAM is used to ensure fast loading programs. If more memory is needed, the SMT5600 features a miniSD card slot behind the battery.


Connectivity


As one of the better connected devices on the market, the Audiovox SMT5600 comes with a USB cable, built-in infrared port, and Bluetooth functionality.

Featuring Bluetooth 1.1 Class 2, the SMT5600 can pair and synchronize with other Bluetooth devices within a 10 meter radius. The supports the hands-free, dial up networking (DUN) and OBEX push and serial port profiles allows pairing and synchronization capabilities through ActiveSync. Although somewhat restrictive, it is limited to reduce the chances of interference between its peripheral devices and those belonging to other people nearby.

Including, Microsoft ActiveSync, users can synchronize the information on their SMT5600 by connecting to a PC or server via the supplied USB connection or over the air.

Audiovox SMT5600 SynchronizeBy connecting the SMT5600, ActiveSync will automatically synchronize the smartphone with Outlook Calendar, Contacts, and Inbox with the attached desktop PC. Additionally, specifications to which items are synchronized can be set. And if a PC doesn't close by, management can be done through Windows Mobile's over-the-air synchronization to keep users up-to-date while on the go.


Conclusion


Packaging PDA functionality and a phone into a clean compact design, the Audiovox SMT5600 is a powerful device with a professional appearance. Just the connectivity features and ActiveSync alone will appeal to business consumers alike; looking for seamless synchronization with Microsoft Office.

The SMT5600's fast OMAP 730 processor allows multitasking with minimal effort. And the suite of applications available on the Windows Mobile 2003 SE and J2ME platforms give users access to a wide variety of productivity tools and games.

However, the SMT5600 is not without a few drawbacks. Though none too serious, some gripes encountered include the difficulty accessing the miniSD card slot located behind the battery and the lack of EDGE high-speed connectivity.

Regardless, for those times when work needs a break, the SMT5600's Windows Media Player 10 gives unrivaled entertainment; not only featuring as an MP3 player, but also doubling as a TV capable of replaying previously recorded video. Meanwhile, the built-in 0.3 MP digital camera and video recorder gives users accessibility to quickly capture impromptu moments.

Furthermore, large color screen and multimedia capabilities ensure the SMT5600 will be easy on the eyes. Being a comprehensive package, the Audiovox SMT5600 is worth consideration for anyone who needs to take their work on the road, yet want to have some fun as well.
