HTC Ozone Review - Connectivity and Conclusion

Connectivity

Bluetooth profiles allowed on the Ozone include headset and handsfree profiles, the ability to push files, pictures or appointments to others remotely, printing, streaming audio to listen to music on Bluetooth headphones, control song play, use buttons remotely, access a phonebook, gain access to the Internet over Bluetooth and support for wireless Internet connections.

The handset also comes with numerous plugs to help the travel charger connect to outlets in other countries, has a mini-USB cable and cord to upload songs and other files onto the phone from a PC, and Remote Desktop Mobile, which allows users to connect to a particular computer with computer name, user and password to gain access to anything stored or available on a desktop.

The Ozone connects to numerous places to find email, computer files, appointments, calendar items, documents and songs. It also supports numerous Bluetooth options. If it came with a headset for music, the package would be complete.

Conclusion

The Ozone's strengths are plentiful. It also support numerous Bluetooth accessories and profiles, ActiveSync to uploads files from a PC onto the phone and Remote Desktop to access files that are stored on a desktop.

The handset uses a Media Streaming application to view video sites like YouTube and RSS Hub to get headlines, news stories and radio dialogues. Direct push technology to keep emails, appointments and documents moving in real time.

Users can also read Microsoft Office and PDF documents and edit Excel and Word.

But the Ozone is not without its shortcomings. The keyboard's buttons are packed too closely together, making typing mistakes a real possibility -- especially since the keys are not very brightly backlit.

Music can be downloaded and applications bought, but getting to these features requires Internet use, which costs money unless routed through Wi-Fi. Once songs are transferred over, organizing them into playlists or by category is not an option.

The screen is decent-sized and has good resolution, but could be more vibrant and photos taken with the integrated 2.0-megapixel camera aren't very sharp.

Its audio sounds good, but can be muffled with the speaker placed on the back of the phone.

Windows Media Player has a major flaw in that it doesn't start in full screen or even a slightly bigger screen.

Regardless, the Ozone has the advantage over the Snap -- Wi-Fi connectivity. But the Snap can sort important emails with "Inner Circle" while the Dash 3G uses T-Mobile's myFaves to call five contacts without usage minutes.

The Ozone is a good choice for people looking to connect online with work and contacts. It's not the best device for entertainment, as the personal music player and camera are medicore. But for Internet and messaging and keeping track of documents, appointments and information, the Ozone is a suitable pick.
