LG Chocolate Review - Internet / Storage / Connectivity

Internet

The Chocolate runs on Verizon Wireless' high-speed EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) network, able to achieve 3G broadband speeds at theoretical rates of up to 2.4 Mbps; but more realistic rates will be around 300 - 500 kbps.

As the backbone to Verizon's multimedia services, EV-DO provides the speeds necessary to support VCAST Music and Video. Available at more than 171 major metropolitan markets and 68 primary airports, Verizon Wireless' broadband network is one of the largest in the country.

Storage

The Chocolate comes with 62.0 MB and 66.0 MB of memory for music and other multimedia respectively. While large compared to other devices, larger files such as music tracks or video clips, the free space may not be enough.

LG Chocolate Expansion Card Slot

Fortunately the Chocolate includes a microSD (TransFlash) expansion card slot. Able to accepting memory cards up to 2 GB in size, plenty of storage is available to fully utilize the Chocolate's memory-intensive audio and imaging capabilities.

Connectivity

Through Bluetooth (v1.1) wireless technology, consumers can connect with up to 20 Bluetooth-compatible devices simultaneously within a 10 meter (30 feet) radius. Compatible with various Bluetooth profiles, users can perform a wide range of wireless functions.

Through Headset Profile (HSP) and Handsfree Profile (HFP), consumers can pair popular Bluetooth headsets and handsfree car kits for wireless communication. Using Serial Port Profile (SPP), the Chocolate emulates a serial port to provide simple integration for existing applications such as sending faxes. Letting customers go online, Dial-Up Networking (DUN) Profile connects laptops over Bluetooth wirelessly. A rather new feature, Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) lets music listeners enjoy songs through A2DP-compatible Bluetooth headphones.

Object Push Profile (OPP) gives consumers a convenient way to send files. Unfortunately it's limited to virtual business cards. OBEX (Object Exchange) is crippled preventing users from transferring multimedia from a PC. While multimedia transfer is crippled, the Chocolate is one of the more well-connected devices on the market.
