Internet
Utilizing
WAP 2.0 and Cingular's MEdia Net, customers can quickly access to online
content for personalization. With just one or two clicks on the F7200's
keypad, consumers can gain access to news and entertainment headlines, sports
scores, financial quotes, local weather, and more.
Having personalized "phone page" enables users to add and remove whatever
content they wish to see. Working closely with leading content providers,
Cingular is able to provide information from CNN for news, ESPN for sports,
E! Online for entertainment, The Weather Channel for weather, and Univision
for Spanish-language content.
Through GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) Class 10 (4+2) users can
download at speeds of up to 48 kbps. Unfortunately the F7200 isn't equipped
for Cingular's new EDGE (Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution) network.
Newly released, EDGE would have let F7200 users achieve broadband-like burst
speeds of up to 200 kbps and average download speeds of 70 - 135 kbps.
Storage
More than enough, stored files are dynamically allocated among the F7200's
24 MB of flash memory. Unlike most devices with built-in cameras, MP3 players,
and other memory intensive features, the F7200 is meant for communication.
So users will most likely take up small space with downloaded wallpapers
and ringtones.
Connectivity
Unfortunately the F7200 lacks Bluetooth technology and an infrared port.
Having little data features, there is no need for synchronization.
Conclusion
As the first device launched of Cingular's new Push-to-Talk service,
users will be able to make unlimited walkie-talkie calls to individuals
or groups for an additional monthly fee.
However the F7200 is far from a well-rounded phone. For consumers who
want some fun and features, other devices should be considered. Lacking
any multimedia or business functionality, the F7200 is a no-frills device
built specifically to communicate. But it does it extremely well.
Allowing users to see status modes and connect up to 20 users for group
calls, Cingular's PTT service is tremendously versatile for customers who
need to do a lot of talking. Instead of draining voice minutes, the F7200
may be a cost effective alternative to on-network communications.
