Entertainment
Common
preinstalled software packaged in the LG F9100 include Alarm Clock, Calculator,
Calendar with Scheduler, Memo, Unit Converter, and World Time.
Allowing users to download and install new games and applications, the
F9100 also supports the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME). As the most
popular Java platform for mobile devices, there are many software applications
already created, available for download.
Internet
While browsing the web, the LG F9100 is built on WAP 2.0 with Class 10
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). GPRS is a non-voice high-speed service
that allows information to be sent and received across mobile networks.
Being Class 10, the F9100 contains four downlink slots and 2 uplink slots
resulting in transfer speeds of up to 48 kbps and 24 kbps for receive and
send rates respectively.
Storage
The phonebook capacity can store up to 255 contacts. For storage, the
F9100 has 24 MB of internal memory, more than enough for text messages,
applications, and games. Rather generous compared to most phones which range
from 1 to 2 MB, users which manage to fill it up will need to delete files
since there is no expansion card slot.
Connectivity
Most phones are able to transfer multimedia through Bluetooth or infrared,
however the F9100 is not one of them. In fact, a serial data cable accessory
will need to be purchased separately to have PC connectivity.
Conclusion
The LG F9100 was made with a specific consumer demographic in mind; targeted
at the unique user who wants robust instant messaging features. Up until
now, there have been no devices which cater to such a market, and the F9100
may be just the device many have been waiting for.
However, with the lack of connectivity, built-in applications, and speakerphone
the F9100 isn't for the general public. It's a specialized device catering to
those who text message or chat regularly.
Ideal for teens and consumers who do a significant amount of talking
with their fingers, the F9100's convenient QWERTY keyboard layout provides
quick typing. Regardless of its drawbacks, the F9100 does instant messaging
extremely well, supporting up to 35 chat sessions with major clients such
as AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ.
