Conclusion
Offering
a built-in MP3 Player, 1.3-megapixel camera with camcorder, and integrated
entertainment services from Sprint Power Vision, little doubt is left of
the Fusic's excellent multimedia capabilities.
The 262K-color internal screen provides the canvas for outstanding video
streaming and imaging, while the external LCD offers convenient access to
common functions including controls to the Music Player.
Meanwhile the USB cable, FM Transmitter, and Bluetooth wireless technology
options tie functionality all together, featuring new and multiple ways
to synchronize, pair, and connect to accessories. As one of the first devices
to integrate an FM Transmitter and A2DP Bluetooth stereo streaming, the
Fusic lets consumers listen wirelessly through their car radio or A2DP headphones.
However the Fusic is not without its drawbacks. One of the major hindrances
was limited range of the FM Transmitter and the lack of A2DP from the Music
Player. Having a radius of 10 feet, actually anything much more than 1 foot
introduces too much hiss and static; rendering the transmitter virtually
useless. And the lack of A2DP on the online Music Player makes buying songs
from Sprint Music Store disappointing.
Furthermore, users have to be online to play songs purchased from Sprint.
Limiting consumers with DRM protection, at $2.50 per song, consumers are
better off buying music from other sources.
Since the Fusic so tied into the Sprint Power Vision, several features
require a monthly subscription charge. Items such as Sprint TV, On Demand,
Sprint Radio, and IM and Email all incur a service fee and/or data charges.
With costs adding up quickly, users who aren't prepared to spend an extra
$15-20 per month on top of a service plan probably won't get the most out
of the Fusic.
Without the services, the Fusic is still a well-rounded multimedia device.
Allowing users to snap photos capable of prints, consumers will never be
without a camera. The microSD expansion card slot also lets users transfer
files to the Fusic without having to purchase them online. Packing in plenty
of music, the Media Player (not the Music Player), is exceptional, providing
FM Transmission, Bluetooth A2DP, and Equalizer settings.
Overall, the biggest drawback is the lackluster design and costly online
features. But for consumers looking for an ultimate multimedia device, the
Fusic's audio, imaging, and connectivity options make it a formidable contender.
