Introduction
The VX6000 was one of the most popular phones on the Verizon Wireless network.
Boasting a state-of-the-art 262K TFT screen, superior multimedia features, and
productive applications, it was no wonder why.
But as the successor, the VX7000 has high expectations. Luckily, it embodies
all the latest trends in technology, adding new levels of video capability with
a revolutionary rotating lens. All this wrapped in the LG trademark slim clamshell
design and sleek finish.
The VX7000 has also refined and improved on many functions the VX6000
was lacking. Functions such as an improved built-in camera, larger more vivid
internal and external screens, and more realistic sounding audio.
For many of the VX6000 loyalists, the VX7000 is a much anticipated release.
And if past indications are correct, the VX7000 should be just as popular.
So take a look at our in-depth review of this latest LG and Verizon release
to see the upgraded characteristics as well as any disappointing setbacks.
Design
Released for Verizon, the VX7000 is the next installment of the clamshell
designs by LG. As the successor to the hugely popular VX6000, several
similarities prevailed. From a sleek design, clean lines, and feature-rich
applications and software, to a crystal clear TFT screen, and excellent
reception.
Throughout the review many comparisons will be made with the VX6000.
The VX6000 was the foundation that the VX7000 was built on. Therefore,
many features will be similar, while others will have been upgraded.
Although the VX7000 is plastic, the build quality of the VX7000 is
significantly better than the VX6000. Small details have been improved
upon resulting in more stable operation, and more solid open and close
construction.
The front of the VX7000 features an external screen. With 4096 colors,
the 96 x 96 px STN display shows common information such as battery life,
date, time, and network status. However, located directly above the external
screen lies the built-in camera flash. When the VX7000 is flipped open,
the flash is pointed at the subject, allows users to take pictures in
low light conditions.
Basic Features
Unfortunately the VX7000 does not have analog capabilities. Equipped
with 800 / 1900 CDMA frequencies, the VX7000 is strictly digital and limited
to the Verizon Network.
With
a slightly more powerful 1100 mAh Li-Ion battery (compared to the
VX6000's 950 mAh), users will be able to talk longer. LG rated the
VX7000 at 180 hours of standby and 3.33 hours of talk time. However,
those are under optimal conditions. Actual talk and standby times are
lower. Our tests resulted in the following times:
Standby Time: 162 hours
Talk Time: 3.0 hours
The navigation is performed through a 5-way keypad similar to the
VX6000's. However, the design and built is significantly better. Key presses
are more consistent and feel sturdier.
