Entertainment
Aside from music, the KRZR offers even more entertainment in the form
of BREW games and video streaming from VCAST Video. Video downloads are
also available from Get It Now! As with most phones, these features usually
incur extra access and / or download fees.
BREW games may be downloaded via Verizon's familiar Get It Now! feature.
The phone comes preloaded with demo versions of the old standards Pac-Man
and Tetris. Upon connecting to Get It Now! users may choose to download
a variety of old and new favorites, either for a monthly subscription fee
or a permanent download fee. With the phone's full color internal screen,
the games glow vibrantly for a bright and enjoyable gaming experience.
VCAST Video brings streaming video to the handheld screens of higher-end
Verizon phones. Unlike video downloads, which allow a user to select and
download a specific program at any given time, video streaming works similarly
to regular TV in that users may watch but not save clips. Some VCAST programs
are available for download and later viewing.
With
BREW games and video from VCAST in addition to music downloads, the KRZR
offers copious entertainment opportunities. Users willing to shell out the
money for various download fees (in addition to VCAST subscription) should
be able to turn their phones into a veritable entertainment machine.
Aside from games, internet, music, and video programs, the KRZR offers
the standard set of organizational applications to help keep track of busy
lives. The list is by no means revolutionary, but it does, at the very least,
cover the bases with Calendar, Alarm Clock, World Clock, Notepad, and Calculator.
Anyone who has used a phone calendar in the past will find no surprises
with the Calendar application. Added events may be set to a single date,
or on daily, Mon.-Fri., weekly, monthly, and yearly cycles. The Alarm Clock
allows up to three alarms to be set at once. The World Clock scrolls across
a global map, displaying the date and time for various cities. Notepad allows
for up to 160 characters of spur-of-the-moment jotting, while the calculator
takes charge of the usual arithmetic.
None of the KRZR's tools are particularly interesting, but in combination,
they should get the organizational job done. A note to business folk everywhere:
this phone will not replace your PDA.
Internet
For emergency on-the-go information needs, users may connect to the internet
via the Mobile Web 2.0 microbrowser under the Get It Now! service. Featuring
cdma2000 1xEV-DO technology, the KRZR offers one of the fastest phone internet
connections around.
For various extra fees, users may access a complete spectrum of information
on the phone's browser, including news, weather, sports, entertainment,
and finance updates. Those with an imperfect sense of direction should take
comfort in instant MapQuest access, while the bored and hungry can find
dinner and a movie via MovieGoer and Zagat sites. Users may navigate to
a slew of other websites by typing in a URL or selecting a bookmark from
the Favorites list.
With a high speed connection and a reliable browser, the KRZR offers
a complete internet package that should users informed all day, every day.
