Audio
Launching Windows Media Player 10 Mobile allows consumers to play a wide
variety of audio files such as MP3, AAC, MIDI, WAV, WMA, iMelody, WAX, and
QCELP formats.
The controls are fairly basic. Using the 5-Way Keypad or Trackwheel,
consumers can Play / Pause, Rewind, and Fast Forward music, as well as adjust
Volume Levels. Additional features include Repeat and Shuffle Modes, Skins,
and customizable buttons.
Lacking a playlist editor, libraries can only be created on a PC, synchronizing
it with the Q via ActiveSync. Alternatively, music can be stored onto miniSD
cards to load entire directories.
Unfortunately the Q isn't integrated with Verizon Wireless' VCAST Music
Store. As other new devices are able to browse, preview, download, and play
digital music over Verizon Wireless' broadband network, Q users will need
to load songs onto memory cards.
Headphones can be plugged into the 2.5 mm Headset Jack for excellent
audio quality. For an open-air listening experience, the dual speaker ports
on the back are sufficiently loud; however the audio quality is quite distorted.
As one of the newest devices to support stereo Bluetooth audio, A2DP-compatible
headphones can be paired with the Q to stream stereo music wirelessly. Offering
impressive results, incoming calls automatically pauses the music, letting
users resume where they left off after hanging up.
Messaging
Fairly straightforward, the Motorola Q uses iTAP predictive text for
fast text messaging via SMS (Short Messaging Service), EMS (Enhanced Messaging
Service), and MMS (Multimedia Message Service) standards.
Users can compose email messages quickly with the full QWERTY keyboard.
Supporting up to eight accounts, POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP protocols are supported
along with GoodLink and Verizon Wireless Sync push email solutions.
Attachments can be read through Picsel Viewer. Able to view complex documents
from Microsoft Office such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel, unfortunately
editing them is not possible.
As part of Windows Mobile 5.0, the Q integrates MSN Messenger for wireless
real-time chat. No longer having to end the conversation when leaving home,
consumers can continue to conversation on the road. Data charges may apply.
