Internet
With the wide LCD display, Pocket Internet Explorer can show both HTML
and WAP sites in a natural horizontal format. Ideal for reading text, the
Q offers various viewing formats, including a standard rendition as PC show,
and a single column layout for easier scrolling on mobile devices.
Taking advantage of high-speed EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) speeds,
users can browse the web up to 2.4 Mbps, but more realistic rates range
from 300 to 500 kbps. Unfortunately consumers with laptops will be unable
to connect to the Q and use it as a wireless modem.
Expanding to more than 171 metropolitan areas and 68 airports, Verizon
Wireless' broadband network is currently one of the largest in the country.
Storage
The
Q includes 128 MB of non-volatile Flash Memory and approximately 49.5 MB
of internal storage shared among all multimedia and applications. For more
memory-intensive programs such as video or audio, the Q features a miniSD
card slot located on the left edge.
Providing all of the benefits of Secure Digital (SD) but in a much smaller
size, miniSD cards are compatible with digital cameras, digital video camcorders,
and portable audio players. They can also be used in devices with SD slots
through an adaptor.
Currently miniSD cards are manufactured up to 2 GB in size, ensuring
users will have plenty of storage to store multimedia.
Connectivity
As one of the better connected devices in Verizon's portfolio, the Q
offers a variety of ways to connect with a PC; through USB, Infrared, or
Bluetooth.
The Q can synchronizes with Windows powered PCs and Microsoft Outlook
through ActiveSync, acting as the gateway to transfer Outlook information,
Office documents, pictures, music, videos, and applications. Also synchronizing
directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, ActiveSync lets users keep
their email, Calendar, Notes, and Contacts updated wirelessly when they're
away from the PC.
The Q also includes a mixture of Bluetooth profiles for numerous wireless
capabilities. Not only communicating via headsets and handsfree devices
through Headset Profile (HSP) and Handsfree Profile (HFP), the Q can also
transfer multimedia through OBEX (Object Exchange) Profile. But perhaps
the most exciting feature is A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile).
Giving music listeners the freedom to enjoy wireless stereo streaming
within a 10 meter (30 feet) range, A2DP-compatiable Bluetooth headphones
let consumers walk around without the constraints of wires. A2DP headphones
provide superb audio attribute with exceptional clarity and tonal qualities.
