Entertainment
With its high-speed, 3G connection, the Rapture supports Verizon's online
service for downloading videos, games and music.
For an added fee of $15 per month, users can subscribe to Verizon's VCAST
mobile video and watch short clips (up to five minutes) from content providers
such as Bravo, Animal Planet, or ESPN. Or for $25 a month, the "V Pak" gets
subscribers unlimited access to all channels, as well as unlimited megabytes
and Mobile Web services.
VCAST Music with Rhapsody, Verizon's music download service, offers unlimited
access to music for $14.99 a month or individual songs for 99 cents per
track. Users can transfer their music from their phone to a PC or vice-versa.
The Rapture doesn't come with games installed, but Verizon sells a multitude
of games such as Tetris and Guitar Hero III through its VCAST services on
a per-download basis. (Some games also require airtime). And finally, for
redecorating or revamping the phone, VCAST offers an array of colorful and
stylish wallpaper as well as the latest ringtones.
Internet
The
Rapture connects to the internet on the EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized)
frequency, which downloads at rates of up to 3.6 Mbps. This super-fast connectivity
allows Verizon subscribers to stream VCAST services painlessly and stay
connected to the internet and email accounts through Verizon's Mobile Web
service.
With Mobile Web, users can get real-time news, sports and entertainment
information on the go. However, this network is only available in urban
areas. Verizon's Broadband network is available in more than 170 major metropolitan
markets. Users in rural areas should check the availability of the network
for their location on the Verizon Wireless website.
Storage
Although the Rapture is marketed as a multimedia phone, it doesn't allow
for much internal storage, with its 67MB of internal shared memory. Users
will want to supplement that with with up to 8GB of microSD removable memory.
Especially if they're are downloading music and videos to transfer to a
PC.
The phone stores up to 1000 contacts, allowing up to 3 phone numbers,
one email address and a photo ID for each entry.
