Motorola RAZR V3 Review - Entertainment / Internet / Storage

Entertainment

A few Java programs are preinstalled on the RAZR V3. The PhoneBook3D application allows users to input up to 9 phone numbers, and picture IDs. Essentially, phone numbers are placed on the side of cubes. And contacts' phone numbers such as work, home, and mobile, make up each side of the cube. Users navigate through the PhoneBook3D by using the navigation keys to turn and choose cubes. The PhoneBook3D synchronizes with the internal phonebook to make sure contacts are accurate.

The RAZR V3 also comes with three preinstalled Java games: Golf, Billiards, and Skipping Stones. Billiards and Golf are quite fun and self-explanatory. Skipping Stones is a logic game similar to the classic Solitaire game found on previous models. The RAZR V3 contains a 3D graphics engine for Java games to be able to render images faster than conventional devices.

By supporting Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME), RAZR V3 users can download and install games and applications from an extensive collection. There is an abundance of applications and games due to J2ME's dominance as the most popular platform for mobile devices. Some are free for download, however most are developed by individuals and require a fee.

Motorola RAZR V3As for built-in software, a standard Organizer is included. View the events in monthly, weekly, or hourly breakdown schedules. Entries can be assigned with names, start and end times, and warning alarms. A Calculator, Dictaphone, and Alarm Clock are all included as Motorola standards programs.

As for the RAZR V3's multimedia capabilities, it supports downloadable wallpapers, screensavers, ringtones, and themes. MotoMixer is a sound file editor that allows users to mix tracks by overlaying them on top of each other. However, it is more of a novelty application that a serious sound composition software. Simple tunes are doable, but anything more is not possible.

Internet

Internet access is through Motorola's proprietary Information Browser, and supports WAP 2.0 with xHTML compatibility.

Carriers frequently maintain pages dedicated to offering real-time data such as weather reports, sports scores, stocks quotes, and travel information. And the RAZR V3 ensures surfers will be able to browse the web and download multimedia at sufficiently fast transfer speeds of up to 48 kbps with GPRS Class 10 (4+1 / 3+2).

Storage

Motorola RAZR V3 LensThe RAZR V3's internal phonebook capacity can store up to a whopping 1,000 contacts, while its 5.5 MBs of internal memory are dynamically allocated among the rest, including multimedia and messages.

Sadly there is no expansion slot for extra memory, so users will have to clean out their old files to make way for newer ones. Users who primarily download smaller files such as wallpaper, ringtones, email, and text messages should have plenty of room. However, MP3s, photos, and games can fill up the remaining memory quickly.
