Screen
As a block phone, the Nokia 5310 features only a single screen, but that
single screeen more than gets the job done. The 16.7 million color / TFT
screen measures in at a hearty 240 x 320 px and features an ambient light
sensor to adjust brightness.

The phone comes preloaded with three visual themes, with more available
for download.
One of five preloaded images may be used for wallpaper, or the user can
opt to use a downloaded image or a self-taken photograph. The Nokia 5310's
full colors and large screen make for a satisfying visual display experience.
Audio
The Nokia 5310 revolves around the music experience, so its audio offerings
had better be good. Fortunately, the phone rises to its own challenges with
a well-rounded music package.
The shiny, metallic-tinged, orange, red, or purple music player controls
placed prominently on the front face of the phone announce from the start
that the Nokia 5310 is all about the music. The volume control lines the
opposite edge of the phone, so that users may single-handedly manipulate
their tunes while the other hand is free to grab a subway strap, fiddle
with ATM buttons, or clutch a latte.
The music player itself covers all the standards. Songs may be organized
by Playlist, Artist, Album, or Genre. The Settings menu allows the user
to shuffle or repeat songs, adjust the virtual knobs on the equalizer, and
set different player skins. Furthermore, the phone allows for a full range
of music files: MP3, MP4, AAC, eAAc+, and WMA. Happily, users should find
the music from their computers well supported. Video files are also supported
and playable from the music player. The phone even comes preloaded with
some files - a song from Panic! At The Disco and another from Phantom Planet,
as well as the latest music video from Panic! At The Disco. As if all this
weren't nice enough, the phone's speaker quality is excellent.

For some added fun, the phone comes with built-in FM radio, and offers
64 chord / MP3 ringtones. Users may download ringtones through T-Mobile's
T-Zones store, sorted into Megatones (instrumental) and HiFi Ringers (actual
song clips). Voices and Sounds allows users to live the dream of downloading
sound effects and celebrity voices for use in place of ringtones. The CallerTunes
feature plays a song of the user's choosing for callers to listen to instead
of a ringer while they're waiting for the user to answer the phone. They
will love this. The good news is that the radio is free. The bad news is
that the ringtones are not - unless you already own them. Transferred files
are playable as ringtones as well as for-fee downloads.
With its very shape designed around the music, experience, the Nokia
5310 means business when it comes to popping out pop snippets at any time,
any place. A wide variety of supported file formats, excellent speaker quality,
FM radio, and downloadable ringtones help to round out the audio experience.
