Audio
Lacking an MP3 player, the Nokia 6102 makes up for it with an FM stereo
radio (headset sold separately), offering convenient listening on the road.
Similar to previous Nokia models, users can preset up to 20 radio stations,
tuning both manually or automatically. Clear and undistorted, the sound
quality is excellent, although a bit thin in the frequency range.
The 6102 is also able to overlay 24 chords simultaneously for polyphonic
ringtones. Mediocre at best, polyphonic ringtones are actually files of
"musical notes" that are read and played through a local synthesizer. With
more simultaneous chords supported, more sounds can be combined, producing
richer-sounding music.
Fortunately the 6102 also supports MP3 ringtones. Not to be confused
with an MP3 player, which the 6102 doesn't contain, users can record songs
from CD to use as their own ringtones.
Activating the speakerphone users can talk with their hands free.
Wonderfully loud, the 6102's audio capabilities are clear and free from
distortion.

Messaging
Featuring all the standard text messaging formats, the Nokia 6102 supports
SMS (Short Messaging Service), EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service), and MMS
(Multimedia Message Service).
Through
T9, predictive text saves users time when typing, choosing from a dictionary
of words and phrases to anticipate what is being written.
The Nokia 6102 also features a new service which allows users to send
voice clips over their cell network. Dubbed Nokia Xpress, the audio messaging
service enables consumers to personalize messages in spontaneous and creative
new ways.
Supporting the latest instant messaging platforms, the 6102 comes with
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and Yahoo! Messenger. Going beyond traditional
SMS-based chat, the 6102's preinstalled chat applications give users real-time
access to friends and family no matter where they are on the road.
