Nokia 7510 Review - Camera and Basic Features

Camera

The Nokia 7510 comes with a built-in 2.0-megapixel camera -- average in the camera phones on the market. It takes colorful and sharp photos outdoors that capture a high amount of detail and a wide range of bright colors. Photos are also relatively true to life indoors when there is natural light, although photo quality decreases when less light is available.

The strong flash takes clearer photos in dim light, but can wash out close-up photos to the point where parts of the photo are white. For tight shots, users can take advantage of the camera's 4x digital zoom.

The 7510 has six different resolutions, range from 1,600 x 1,200 px down to 160 x 120 px, three photo quality settings, a self-timer, six color effects including sepia and "negative," and adjustable white balance.

Overall video quality was decent, though the quality was pixilated. On the good side, it recorded much louder and clearer audio than many other handsets. Unfortunately, the visual quality of the videos produced falls below what some of the high-end camera phones on the market can produce. But for a mid-range, functional phone, the video quality is acceptable.

Video editing options are similar to those available for still images, and users can adjust the contrast on the video after recording it. Before recording video, users can adjust settings such as video resolution, clip quality, white balance and select color effects such as sepia, "solarize" and grayscale.

Nokia 7510 users can set their photos as a photo caller ID, and they can use videos for caller ID or as a ring tone for incoming calls.

Basic Features

Nokia has all the basic features needed for a functional phone including vibrate mode, a calendar, an alarm clock, a to-do list, a notepad, a calculator, text and multimedia messaging, a stopwatch, timer, world clock, currency and unit converter and a speakerphone.

Advanced features include Bluetooth wireless technology, voice commands and a voice memo recorder.

The handset has an intuitive and basic interface. Through the menu, users can access "settings" to customize the wallpaper, themes, home screen and font size, among other things. Users can also turn certain light effects on and off.

T-Mobile offers AOL instant messaging, call forwarding, call waiting, caller ID and conference calling, with additional fees for some services. Also, users can take advantage of T-Mobile's CallerTunes to download music, sound effects, or short, spoken clips for incoming callers.

The handset comes with a 870 mAh Li-Ion battery rated for up to three hours of talk time and 12 days of standby.
