Screen
The Nokia 7510's 2.2-inch QVGA internal screen does not compare to the
touch screen smartphones coming onto the market these days, but it is still
large enough to provide a basic view of photos and videos. The brilliant
and colorful screen supports up to 16.7 million colors and with a resolution
of 240 x 320 px, ranking it among the upper tier of Nokia handsets.
The hidden external display distinguishes the 7510 from other handsets.
Beneath the front changeable cover, a small screen lights up to show incoming
calls, the time or an animation sequence of sparkling white squares that
flash across the screen. A small area of the front cover on the phone lets
the light from the external display to shine through.
For a traditional clamshell, the 7510 has an innovative external screen
design and provides solid, basic screen quality. The 16.7 million screen
colors give users a better viewing experience with the photos and videos
they produce with the phone, download or receive from friends and family.
Audio
The
may not look like it has a music player but it packs both an FM radio and
a MP3 player.
It needs an antenna for the radio to work, and T-Mobile includes a headset
with an antenna to the phone.
When users turn on the radio for the first time, it quickly searches
for local radio stations and sets up preset channels so users can easily
flip through them in the future. The sound was clear on the radio, and the
black and green interface was simple to use.
The media player reproduced sharp, extremely colorful video clips, so
it is unfortunate that the built-in camera produces lackluster video. Its
sound quality was decent but not great, although it was better with the
headset.
Some users have complained that the 7510 does not produce loud enough
sound, but the volume was strong on the highest setting, just not always
clearly defined.
To fine tune sound, users can adjust the equalizer and turn stereo widening
off and on.
Users can play the following formats: MP3, MP4, AAC, ACC+, eAAC+ and
WMA. Through T-Mobile's CallerTunes, users can download music, sound effects,
or short, spoken clips for incoming callers.
Messaging
Users have several ways to stay in touch since the phone has built in
Wi-Fi. The 7510 can access Web email accounts through POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP
protocols or from the phone's email application.
Instant messaging includes AOL, Windows Live and Yahoo clients. With
the large keypad and generous amount of separation between the keys, typing
was no problem.
Serious text messaging and email users might prefer a phone with a full
slide-out keyboard such as the Sidekick, but other users should do fine
with this keypad.
