Audio
The BlackBerry 7105t lacks many of the audio features found on popular
devices today, items such as built-in MP3 players or FM radios. Not surprisingly,
the 7105t was created with business users in mind, so it was expected.
On the contrary, useful features such as handsfree functionality can
be accessed through headphones connected to the 2.5mm audio jack, a Bluetooth
wireless headset, or speakerphone grill located on the back.
Messaging
Through RIM's proprietary SureType predictive text technology, 7105t
users are able type on the 20-key QWERTY keypad no differently than a full
QWERTY keyboard, with only one key press for each letter.
With
many keys containing two letters and a number; such as the '1' key used
for letters 'E' and 'R,' distinguishing between which item is meant to be
typed depends on the sequence of keys pressed. Although each key represents
multiple entry possibilities, the 7105t matches combinations to a 35,000
word dictionary. Since the English language has only a finite number of
acceptable arrangements, the 7105t can predict which letter is needed.
Additionally, shortcuts allow consumers to execute general functions
such as opening websites and applications. For example, by typing the letters
"word\" anywhere, Microsoft Word can be launched. Similarly, typing "address\"
will have the full address entered on-screen. To avoid mistakenly activating
it, a special expansion key is required after a word (by default, backslash)
for SureType initiate.
The BlackBerry 7105t also has instant messaging platforms. With mobile
versions of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ included,
users can communicate in real-time with friends and family.
Entertainment
Familiar preinstalled PIM (Personal Information Management) applications
come bundled on the BlackBerry OS such as Alarm Clock, Calculator, Memo
Pad and Tasks. Additional programs can be installed through J2ME (Java 2
Platform, Micro Edition), a mobile platform for Java-based software. Available
through the web, an abundant supply of productivity tools and games are
available, most for a small fee.
The
Address Book can store up to eight phone numbers, an email address, and
two postal addresses, allowing users to call, email, SMS, or schedule meetings
from one centralized location. And with the Calendar, appointments can be
viewed by the Day, Week, or Month, while an Agenda displays the schedule
in list format.
But the 7105t's most attractive feature is its email functionality. Using
the BlackBerry Internet Email, email messages can be wirelessly forwarded
and retrieved every 3 to 15 minutes from up to 10 POP3 or IMAP4 accounts.
New to the 7105t, T-Mobile and RIM teamed up with Yahoo! to provide enhanced
Yahoo! Mail access. As the first Internet email provider to provide integration
with BlackBerry Internet Service, Yahoo! provides real-time, push-based
delivery of Yahoo! Mail to T-Mobile customers. Through the service, road
warriors can experience the ability to use multiple "sent from" addresses
and enhanced wireless synchronization of read / unread message status, and
sent and deleted items.
For corporate email, the 7105t can connect with Microsoft Exchange and
Lotus Notes servers through Enterprise.
Supporting a broad range of file types, the 7105t can open and view email
attachments from Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Corel WordPerfect, Adobe
PDF, Zip Archives, HTML, and ASCII documents.
