Mobile Web and other Internet-based options on the Alias 2 operate on
an EV-DO, CDMA 800/1900 MHz Digital only system. That means the phone has
3G support, downloads fast and connects to the Internet fast. There are
higher-grade EV-DO connections out there, but this one works just fine.
The Alias 2 has a plethora of messaging and Internet-based options and
a great connection with admirable download speeds. One downside, though,
is that Mobile Web is the only Internet connection option because the phone
does not connect to Wi-Fi, which could be a headache when trying to save
money on an Internet bill or if there's interference with the mobile system.
Storage
The
Alias 2 comes with a whopping 100MB of memory, which is good for a clamshell
phone and better even than some smartphones. The phone also uses up only
17.62MB of memory out of the box, leaving a lot of space for downloading.
This sets the stage for a lot of downloading, but also a lot of room to
spend money. It also leaves plenty of space for storing items like photos,
videos and music.
The Alias 2 comes with a handy memory usage section that breaks down
memory usage by category so users can see if they're packing on a lot of
memory usage in music versus pictures, and so on. If more room is needed,
a microSD card can provide more space (up to 16GB), and one category, item
or all items can be sent to the card through options in the memory usage
section.
Finding storage space shouldn't be a problem on the Alias 2, unless music
sync or download sections are used constantly or the phone becomes a substitute
camera for an avid photographer.
Connectivity
The Alias 2 is Bluetooth compatible and can support a headset, stereo
or hands-free devices. The phone supports phonebook access, basic printing,
basic imaging, and object push profile for vCard and vCal.
The phone also connects to a computer to use its modem or to sync music
with the phone via a USB port. The phone uses Mobile Web for Internet services
but cannot connect to Wi-Fi. The phone's Internet services are powered by
an EV-DO, 800/1900 MHz processor and gets its speed from a 3G network.
The Alias 2 only connects to the mobile Internet through one method.
Luckily, a speedy processor and network support that method. The Bluetooth
options could be lengthier, but the stereo and headset options, both available,
are probably the most integral, considering the phone has such great personal
music player possibilities.
