Samsung MM-A900 Review - Audio / Messaging

Audio

Containing an embedded MP3 player, music listeners can easily control playing capabilities with the seamlessly integrated Rewind, Play / Pause, and Fast Forward Keys. By enabling Airplane Mode, users can use the A900 as a standalone player, disabling communication functionality.

Customers can also purchase music through Sprint Music Store. A new service allowing consumers to browse and download full songs over-the-air, the A900 is directly connected to an online catalogue of hundreds of thousands of songs. Virtually every genre of music is available for purchase, directly on and to the A900.

With the support of major labels such as EMI Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group, users can purchase songs for $2.50 a piece. Although more expensive than other music services, customers actually receive two copies of the song: one high-quality version formatted to play on the A900, and another high-quality version formatted to download on their PC, so owners can use Windows Media Player to burn it to CD.

Samsung MM-A900 OpenUnfortunately, users will only be able to fit about an album's worth of music on the internal memory. With the lacks of an expansion card slot, a bit or memory management will need to be taken into consideration.

But through Sprint Power Vision, listeners won't need to worry about memory. Accessing live streaming radio and music whenever and wherever they want, popular services such as MSpot, Sirius, and Rhapsody music are available anywhere and anytime of day.

Supporting stereo audio, consumers can listen privately without disturbing others with the included headphones. But to share the music, dual speakers positioned on the bottom edges of the front panel blast music for an exceptional open-air listening experience.

Messaging

Supporting SMS (Short Messaging Service), EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service), and MMS (Multimedia Message Service) standards, text messagers can use T9 predictive text for faster typing.

And should their thumbs get tired, VoiceMode speech-to-text technology allows them to dictate what to type. Requiring clear enunciation and speech, users will need to pause in between words, but the A900 is relatively accurate at understanding is being said and what to type.

A wide range of Sprint tools are also accessible on the A900. With Sprint PCS Vision and Video Mail, photos and 15-second video clips can be attached to text messages for fun vacation postcard messages or video birthday greetings. Through PCS Mail, users can stay connected on the road by sending and receiving emails with file and photo attachments. Even access to popular 3rd party clients such as MSN Hotmail, AOL Mail, and Yahoo! Mail are included.

For real-time instant messaging, preinstalled AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), MSN Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger clients let users go beyond traditional SMS-based chat. Letting customers chat in real-time, being away from the desktop doesn't mean users have to be away from friends and family.
