Samsung MM-A940 Review - Storage / Connectivity / Conclusion

Storage

Samsung MM-A940 BackBeing a multimedia devices, ample stores is needed to truly unlock the A940's versatility. Fortunately it comes with a whopping 60 MBs worth. Dynamically shared among photos, ringtones, videos, games and applications, and general multimedia, users should find the A940 has more than enough memory. But should they run out, an expansion card slot on the left accepts TransFlash media. Necessary to run the MP3 Player, current cards hold up to 512 MB in size, enough for hours and hours of music.

Connectivity

Featuring Bluetooth wireless technology, the A940 can synchronize and pair with other Bluetooth devices within a 10 meter radius. Unlike its Verizon Wireless counterpart, the A940 has unrestricted access, meaning users can save money by downloading and transferring files to and from the A940 and a PC themselves, instead of purchasing multimedia through Sprint PCS.

Conclusion

The Samsung A940 is a revolutionary device. Fitting the lens lengthwise along the hinge, the unorthodox design allows the 2.0-megapixel camera to allow optical zoom. Featuring controls on the front panel and a TransFlash memory card slot, the A940 is also a formidable music phone. But also capable of utilizing Sprint's EV-DO and Power Vision service, entertainment is just an arms reach away.

Combining imaging, audio, and entertainment into a multimedia powerhouse, the A940 is undoubtedly a strong contender. However there are some drawbacks in design and functionality. Most notable is rock solid hands that are needed to take photos. While high in resolution, the camera's speed requires consumers to brace the A940 in low or indoor lighting conditions. A bit of an inconvenience, photos come out wonderfully when sharp.

Featuring video streaming technology, users will need to subscribe to extra service to truly unlock the A940's potential. Requiring monthly service charges of $10-20, Power Vision TV shows stream on the lighting fast EV-DO network for crisp and clear viewing.

Lastly, the A940 is not cheap. Running about $300 with a service plan, the price is probably the largest downside. Regardless, for the most sophisticated optics to date on a mobile device, MP3 music playing capabilities, and EV-DO internet access, the A940 is the only choice on the Sprint PCS network.
