Samsung SCH-A870 Review - Storage / Connectivity / Conclusion

Storage

Samsung SCH-A870 BackThe Samsung A870 includes an ample 30.0 MB of internal memory, dynamically shared among stored multimedia. Without memory-intensive applications such as a high-resolution digital camera or MP3 player, consumers should find the internal storage plentiful for photos, ringtones, and applications.

Connectivity

Supported Bluetooth 1.2 profiles include a sparse but standard collection: Headset (HSP), Hands-Free (HFP), Dial-Up Networking (DUN) and Serial Port (SPP). The first two allowing for wireless connections to a headset and a hands-free vehicle kit, while DUN allows the mobile phone to function as a modem for a computer or PDA. The phone does not support Infrared or Wi-Fi connections.

The Bluetooth, again, is not particularly exciting, but it does cover the basics. Access to the internet and connectivity with headsets and hands-free kits should prove satisfactory for the average mobile phone user looking for standard features on an inexpensive phone.

Conclusion

The A870 does not offer the most cutting-edge features available on the market today, but accordingly it does not offer the high price associated with more advanced phones. Its cdma2000 1xRTT connectivity and VGA camera are a touch behind the up-and-coming EV-DO and 2.0-megapixel varieties, but both get the job done well enough, especially for users who do not rely on their mobile devices for internet or print-quality photos.

Incorporated Bluetooth profiles satisfy basic accessory needs with Headset and Hands-Free available in addition to DUN and SPP. Users who require MP3 or video capabilities in a mobile phone will have to look elsewhere, whereas users who meet their audio/video needs with separate devices should have no problem with a lack of such capabilities on this phone.

Other than the less-than-advanced features mentioned above, not much is missing from the A870. It will send and receive calls and messages, thus satisfactorily meeting the primary purpose of communication.

In addition to this primary purpose, the phone features nice extras in the form of a camera, wireless connectivity, convenient tools, VibeTonz, VoiceSignal, and Mobile Web. An inexpensive phone, the A870 handles the job of communication and offers the standard variety of useful and fun features that mobile phone users have come to enjoy.
