Camera
Pressing and holding the shortcut key along the left activates the built-in
0.3-megapixel camera. Converting the LCD into a viewfinder, photo resolution
is displayed on the top left corner.
Using the directional keypad, users can adjust 4X digital zoom (Up /
Down) or brightness levels (Left / Right) slider bars. While, not providing
true zooming capabilities as optical zoom would, like all camera phones,
the E635 merely enlarges by increasing picture size much like editing images
on a PC.
Bundled with additional camera settings and effects, features include
Modes (Normal, Multi-Shot, Night, and Capture Only), Effects (Gray, Negative,
Sepia, Emboss, and Sketch), Rotation (Mirror and Vertical Flip), Timer (3, 5,
and 10 seconds), Frames, Shutter Sounds, and Flash.
Capturing
photos at up to 640 x 480 px in resolution, photo quality can also be adjusted
between QVGA (320 x 240 px), QQVGA (160 x 120 px) and Mobile (128 x 120
px) resolutions. But users will probably opt for VGA since approximate image
file sizes are only 50 KB; virtually insignificant when compared to the
5.6 MB of available storage.
Unfortunately, VGA cameras are not high-enough in resolution to provide
decent quality prints. Better suited for phone wallpapers and multimedia
messages with fun filters and effects, users shouldn't expect the E635 to
be a digital camera replacement. It's unable to record video clips as well.
Basic Features
Being released for T-Mobile, the Samsung E635 is built on a tri-band GSM
850 / 1800 / 1900 network. Being compatible with most GSM networks in North
American, European, and Asian GSM markets, the E635 only requires a regional
SIM card, provided the phone unlocked.
Samsung rated the E635's 800 mAh Li-Ion battery at 4.0 hours and 240
hours of talk and standby times respectively. However, those are under optimal
conditions.
When manufacturers and carriers list talk and standby times, they usually
include disclaimers about variable performance and often refer to the times
they publish as maximum times. Actual talk and standby times are lower.
