Battery
A 720 mAh Li-Polymer slim battery is used with the SGH-S105. Samsung claims
the battery will work for 4 hours of talk time and 92 hours of standby,
however those numbers are maximum times. Realistically the times are much
lower.
Minimum Rated Standby Time: 85 hours
Minimum Rated Talk Time: 180 minutes
Many variables, including carrier signal strength at your location, signal
consistency (including incoming and outgoing calls), display and ringer
settings, and battery charging methods and history, will affect performance.
When handset manufacturers and mobile phone carriers list talk-time and
standby-time ratings, they usually include disclaimers about variable performance
and often refer to the times they publish as maximum times.
Storage
The
Samsung SGH-S105 comes with a measly 300 kb of internal memory for storing
pictures, ring tones, text messages, and Java applications. This is the
biggest drawback of the phone. 300 kb is definitely not enough for a phone
that supports all these features. With all the extras Samsung put in, polyphonic
ring tones, higher resolution wallpaper, and Java applications, you would
think they would give you enough memory to store it.
Connections
The SGH-S105 comes with an infrared port for transferring files from your
computer to your phone. This phone also comes with a data cable, a huge
plus for people without infrared ports. This makes transferring pictures,
ring tones, contacts, MIDlets, etc, much easier if you don't have an infrared
port. The SGH-S105 also comes with EasyGPRS software, which allows you to transfer
files to your phone from a computer, and allows you to access your phone
for use as a GPRS modem.
We should note, the SGH-S105 does not have synchronization capabilities with
Outlook or Lotus Notes. If you need this feature, then look elsewhere. For
people who can get by without it, then you have the option of synchronizing
with the Samsung application.

Overall a decent messaging package. One thing we did notice was the inability
to expand your T9 dictionary, and the inability to capitalize the first
word in the sentence. The T9 defaults to lowercase. So when you type you'll
have to hit an extra key to capitalize. Sure, it doesn't sound like much,
but if you send a couple hundred SMS messages a month, it really adds up.
You'll come to miss those minor features.
