Basic applications found on the T609 include Alarm, Calculator, Calendar,
Stopwatch, Tasks, Timer, Unit Converter, and World Time. Users can also
record voice Notes up to 1 minute in length and check email through T-Zones.
Verbal commands are all consumers need to dictate using VoiceSignal
software. Allowing users to issue commands without speech training such
as checking the battery life and signal strength, advanced functions are
possible using natural speech to launch programs, dial numbers, and lookup
contacts by using just the sound their voice. As one of the most advance
voice recognition systems for mobile devices, the T609 understands user
commands even when spoken in real-time.
To have some fun, four games come preinstalled on the T609: Airship Racing:
Around The Globe, Arch Angel, Bobby Carrot, and Freekick Festival.
In Airship Racing, players navigate around the globe in a hot air balloon,
landing on islands while avoiding eagles, piranhas, tornadoes, and thunder
clouds along the way.
Arch
Angel is a classic high-flying jet fighter game. Going up against other
jets while dodging mountains, players must meet different objectives to
complete the mission.
Gamers will need strategy when taking on Bobby Carrot. Players need to
collect all the carrots on the level in the least number of steps while
avoiding tricky traps blocking the way.
And for soccer fans, the T609 includes Freekick Festival. Taking free
kicks on goal, players will have to angle free kicks between moving defenders
with amusing parodies of real-world superstars named Backhim and Owan.
Additional Java-based games and applications can be installed through
J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition), a common platform for mobile devices. With
abundant software for business users and gamers alike, consumers can find
mobile versions of popular PC applications and video games reminiscent of
90s console games.
Internet
The T609 comes with EDGE (Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution) to allow
users to surf the web on T-Mobile's 3G high-speed network. Achieving rates of
70-135 kbps, EDGE allows the T609 to transfer 3 to 4 times faster than
traditional GPRS networks.
For convenience, T-Mobile gives customers access to T-Zones, its online
multimedia service. Through the service, users can connect to send messages,
check email, purchase multimedia, or access a variety of premium services.
Should users need information on the road, 411 directory assistance comes
in handy. By calling live operators available 24/7, customers can get movie
listings, weather reports, horoscopes, sports scores, restaurant listings,
stock quotes, and more. Three listings cost $1.49. Unfortunately unlike other
carriers, T-Mobile doesn't currently offer video streaming service.
