Samsung SGH-T629 Review - Entertainment / Internet / Storage

Entertainment

The Samsung T629 is by no means a media heavy phone, but it allows for basic features such as MP3 ringtones, image downloads, games, and preloaded music videos.

Basic applications found on the T629 include Alarm, Calendar, Tasks, Calculator, World Time, Unit Conversion, Timer, and Stopwatch. Users can also record voice Notes up to 1 minute in length and check email through T-Zones. It should be noted that while these tools get the basic job done, the Samsung T629 will not replace a PDA.

The T629's major entertainment factors lie in its still image and video capturing abilities, however a few games and new options do appear. One of a few to offer airplane mode, the phone allows users to shut off the phone's connectivity functions in airports and other security areas. This allows users to play games, take photos, voice record on phones without.

The phone comes with standard pre-loaded games like Bobby Carrot, AirShipRacing, Arch Angel, Freekick and Midnight Pool. The latter takes a while to load and is only a partial version. And while Midnight Pool, with its gritty pool hall aesthetic takes a few seconds to load, it is to be commended for not bursting into sound upon loading like the others. Still, the game's text is too small to read from a regular gaming distance.

Internet

Samsung SGH-T629 AngleRunning on T-Mobile's 3G EDGE (Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution) network, consumers can use the T629 to access the web at high-speed transfer rates of 70-135 kbps; 3 to 4 times faster than traditional GPRS networks.

Connecting to T-Mobile's online portal, T-Zones, customers can download music, games, wallpaper, more web applications, or access a variety of premium services.

Features include a 411 directory assistance for lost users on the road and access to live operators available 24/7 able to answer questions regarding movie listings, weather reports, horoscopes, sports scores, restaurant listings, stock quotes, and more. Three listings cost $1.49.

With the additional fees for connection to the Internet, the T629 provides a high-speed connection and a reliable browser that can be accessed anywhere the phone has a signal, making it an ideal tool for checking email throughout the day.

Storage

The Samsung T629 has potential for a large download volume. Features 21.0 MB of internal storage, memory-intensive applications can be supplemented by microSD cards, which must be purchased separately.
