Samsung SGH-T809 Review - Entertainment / Internet / Storage / Connectivity

Entertainment

In addition to the 1.3-megapixel camera and integrated MP3 player, the T809 also includes essential applications such as Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, Stopwatch, Timer, World Timer, and Unit Conversion. While there's no email client, T-Mobile customers can access accounts through T-Zones service. Noticeably Voice Commands are missing as well.

Offering a few bundled games, the T809 is built on the J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition) mobile platform. As the most popular mobile application platform, many developers have created a wide range of Java games (reminiscent of 80s console titles) and applications. Through the Internet or T-Zones, consumers can download programs, most for a small fee.

Internet

The T809 comes with GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) Class 10 technology, allowing consumers to browse the web at speeds of up to 48 kbps. However, users will probably opt for EDGE (Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution) high-speed connectivity.

Samsung SGH-T809 SideAble to achieve broadband-like speeds of up to 384 kbps, T-Mobile customers can access T-Zones Internet service for picture and video messaging, multimedia and game downloads, and web and email access.

Storage

Having 65.0 MB of 70.0 MB free for storage, photos, ringtones, videos, and applications and games are dynamically shared on the T809's internal memory.

Additionally having a TransFlash expansion slot, the T809 takes advantage of the MP3 player, by accepting cards up to 512 MB in size. A 32 MB is included in the package.

Connectivity

Packaged with the T809, a USB data cable allows users to connect with a PC for immediate connectivity. But to transfer wirelessly, the T809 also features Bluetooth 1.2 technology. Allowing users to connect the T809 to other Bluetooth-capable devices within a 10 meter range, messy wires can be avoided by pairing with a wide range of peripheral devices including headsets, car equipment, PCs, printers, PDAs, or digital cameras. As the already-popular Bluetooth standard grows even more popular, more and more devices in a wide range of industries will be compatible.
