Connectivity
Under
Bluetooth version 1.2, the phone supports Headset, Hands-Free, Dial-Up Network
(DUN), and Object Push (OPP) profiles. The Headset and Hands-Free profiles
easily create connections with wireless headsets and car kits. The DUN profile
allows the user create an internet connection for a PC or PDA via the A640.
The OPP, which is only available for use with vCard, enables the transfer
of data such as pictures, virtual business cards, and appointment details.
With a variety of profiles supported, Bluetooth fans should not be disappointed.
Upon activation of a subscription from the phone itself, a wireless backup
service connected to Sprint's website saves contact lists in case the phone
is lost, stolen, damaged, or replaced.
Conclusion
With its disappearing external screen and glossy black exterior, the
A640 offers a cool design in an inexpensive package. With rather basic basic
features including ReadyLink, a 65K-color screen, J2ME games, and the 2G
PCS Vision internet service, the phone is by no means cutting-edge. Unlike
Sprint's newest phones, the A640 does not offer the 3G Power Vision and
its related video and MP3 music services. The VGA camera takes pictures
for fun, but not high-quality photos for print. This is a phone for talkers,
with a few other accessories thrown in for fun.
In a world where some mobile phones resemble technological Swiss Army Knives
loaded with MP3 players and state-of-the-art digital cameras, the A640 is
a simple creature, lacking both a cutting-edge camera and the most efficient
internet connection (along with associated perks like music and video downloading).
However, this very simplicity, embodied in the sleek black design, can be
a boon for those who would rather have a low-cost, stylish phone than a
more expensive multi-functional electronic device. The A640 should satisfy
users on the lookout for an affordable, aesthetic device.
